This fairly new eatery serves standard Indian fair. I think it is mainly a takeaway and delivery service but it does have a small seated section inside. We were looking for somewhere quick and easy to grab a bite to eat and it definitely served that purpose. The eating area isn’t glamorous and is perhaps missing a little bit of charm. We ordered a few dishes for three people to share including the wonderful achari gosht(succulent lamb simmered in fragrant spices and pickle.). This was our favourite dish. The other dishes were pretty good. We also enjoyed a jug of lassi between us and this was excellent. The price is pretty good and I would consider ordering a takeaway from here next time.

Bombay Rickshaw provide an unusual twist on your typical curry. The kitchen is on display, the menu was quite broad and had lots of tempting dishes on it including a good selection of vegetarian options. With the kitchen being visible they cooked my chicken tikka and mushroom in what looked like a wok. I could observe the very fast process that they took to create my meal, and in a jiffy I was handing over my pennies and walking out the door. Remarkably this speed of cooking that the chef has mastered didn’t compromise the taste. I like it very much as a concept — go in, choose, have your food cooked, pay, go out. I suppose it’s like most takeaways but with this one at least the food is surprisingly good and not expectedly substandard. Bombay Rickshaw provides a quick, tasty and flavoursome filler when you need that gap filling(full of curry).

I was really excited when Bombay Rickshaw Co. came to Kings Heath as one of my dreams is to visit Bombay, plus it seemed to take a different angle to the Indian takeaway we are all accustomed to in Birmingham. The ‘Live Open Kitchen’ isn’t as impressive as I thought it would be and the inside is a little clinical for my liking. The menu requires time to mull over as the dishes aren’t named in the same way as most Indian restaurants and there is a lot to choose from. The meat and chicken in the curries was cooked to perfection and my dad’s veggie dish which was packed with spinach was also very tasty. All I would say is maybe they are a little heavy-handed with salt but that could just be my individual taste. I definitely would go back again for a takeaway only this time maybe try the ‘Tasty Tiffin Combos’ where the idea is you get a few smaller portions to try.
