Not the best Indian food I have tried in the UK, by any stretch. Went in for dinner last night after looking at the menu posted outside, which looked like typical Indian fare. Was alone, and the manager sat me a a table between 4 guys, clearly drunk, and 3 ladies, clearly drunk. Loud, laughing constantly, and talking to each other. I was in the middle… very uncomfortable. I ordered a Thali, which is combo of 3 curries with rice, naan bread and an appetizer. All three curries tasted the same, on the bland side. Very little lamb or chicken, mostly just sauce. In this city known for great Indian food, this is a no-go.

I didn’t realise Bombay Mix was a full Indian restaurant until a friend of mine took me there after a few after work drinks. I love currys and with my preferred favourite being a chicken tikka masala so I decided to ordermy trusty favourite. The service was quick but it was pretty empty in there as we arrived around 6.30pm. The curry was so so but definitely not the best version of a tikka masala I’ve ever had. My friend had the chicken balti which he said was delicious so if I do end up here again in the future I’d be tempted to try that instead as I wasn’t overly impressed with my curry.

In the mist of the generic fast food joints that dominate Broad Street, Bombay Mix stands out as a much more cultured, even sophisticated if you like. Its location seems very strange, especially as it closes at midnight, rejecting all possible customers that have drank slightly too much and are dying for some food. Regardless, It is where it is and the food there is good food, although in comparison to other sit down curry houses, it definitely isn’t the best. The meals are reasonably priced, but even at £7 for a main, you’d expect better quality than what is on offer. Overall, Bombay Mix is a bit of a strange one, although if you’re ever near the top end of Broad Street and in desperate need of a curry and a sit down, you now know where to go!

Broad Street is a veritable cornucopia of takeaways, and with a name like Bombay Mix, you’d be forgiven for expecting it to be yet another eatery of the eat-out variety. However, Bombay Mix is actually a sit down Indian restaurant. It’s location is strange to say the least, and I struggle to see why many would choose to go there rather than a more convenient local(which everyone in Birmingham will have, given how hard it is to park on Broad Street). I can only assume that most of their custom is generated by people looking to make a night of a trip to the cinema(why I’ve been), or those brave souls who go for a curry before a night out at Gatecrasher(never a good combination). Numerous signs tell passers-by that the restaurant closes at 12, so there’s no chance for a civilized bite after coming out of a club. The food’s good(although, for Birmingham, a ‘good’ curry often won’t cut it, with so many brilliant curry houses dotted all over the city), and with prices at around £6.95 for mains makes Bombay Mix essentially a budget Pushkar’s.

Really enjoyed my food here and very reasonably priced! Excellent attentive service and new décor much improves ambiance. The complimentary popadoms were so cute and different, I knew the food would be nice too. The starters were really nice, very generous with their food too. The main meals were great too, I liked the little clay pots they came in, we were able to try each others food easily. We were too stuffed for desert but they looked nice! It’s a nice place to go if you want ambiance and a nice quiet and romantic dinner. Good food reasonably priced with excellent service
