Bliss is one of the myriad of clubs available to discerning punters on any given night on Birmingham’s Broad Street. Formally a very cool placed called Sports Bar which was filled with various sporting paraphernalia including a real racing motorbike, and now under new management, they’ve gone in just about the most disparate direction as possible, instead trying to make the bar into quite a girly cocktail type bar(let’s face it, there’s no way for a guy to say he’s going to Bliss and sound anything resembling masculine), and this is matched in the décor. I’ve only visited the club on its weekly Stupid Tuesdays night(which takes place, surprisingly, on Tuesdays), which offers drinks from a £1, and is a generally enjoyably night out if you’re looking to get relatively drunk. Bliss isn’t particularly big, with a few moderately sized areas, and this makes the club a nice change of pace from the Hogwarts-esque maze of Gatecrasher and the insanely busy Risa.

Bliss Bar used to be the Sports Bar back in the day– I’m that old I remember all the old names of these bars. The place is huge, as when it was the sports bar there used to be lots TV’s, pool tables on the bottom floor and lots of lad’s! Now that it’s been turned into Bliss Bar, it’s definitely changed atmosphere. I’m not sure whether I’m really feeling the new bar. It’s been decorated in a nice way but I find that it always feels pretty empty. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad place. If you like a bit of RnB then they do play this on a Friday & Saturday night. However, I’d probably choose to go into a different bar on Broad Street on my nights out. It’s the type of place that you need to check out for yourself.

Broad Street’s Bliss club and bar is an exceedingly large venue for the amount of people and groups that gather there. On my first Bliss experience, the front and immediate first room that me and my friends walked into seemed to be quite derelict considering it was late on a Friday night, this aspect didn’t appeal to me in the slightest as there was not many people to converse with as you would do on a night out with girlfriends or boyfriends. The back room however was filled with dancing, strobe lights and exciting personalities. The music that was played was old school RnB which myself, and my friends are wholly interested in and this enlightened our Bliss experience a great deal. Overall, out of all the clubs and bars on Broad Street, I wouldn’t recommend going to Bliss as a first option as this club and bar seems to still be under the up and coming process.
