Cafe Rouge

I went to this restaurant for a quiet lunch with a friend. Having had fairly grim experiences at two other Café Rouge restaurants, my expectations were pretty low. Having lived in France for years I also find myself easily irritated by pseudo-​French tat and so tend to avoid limp imitations of proper French cuisine!
Having said all that, I was really pleased with the delicious lunch I had at Café Rouge. Their confit de canard was rich, tasty and really authentic. We had lovely chocolate puddings to follow. It always irks me slightly to have to ask for water and bread and as such the service left me a little non-​plussed, especially since the wait for the bill felt really very long and it did feel pretty pricey. Overall though, it was yummy and well worth a visit.

I really like this restaurant I must say. Although I do think it’s a little bit overpriced, the food is reliably good, and you get a decent portion or everything. They change the menu regularly and have daily specials, and I am yet to order something that turned out to be off menu. They have a good range of drinks considering it’s such a small place (they even sell Fruli — yum!) The staff here are fantastic, they are happy, smily, friendly people who will always make time to chat to customers and make recommendations.
