Food/Cost:(2) Came with my traveling companion for a quick breakfast before our sightseeing. I ordered the advertised special, the scone(1.30 pounds). I also got a tea(1 pound). I understand that the scone is cheap, but even for the price, the scone was severely lacking. It was dry inside and out. I definitely got better scones elsewhere during my Ireland visit. My friend ordered the eggs and toast, and that didn’t look any better. It was two plain pieces of toasted white bread with some plain scrambled eggs. Ambiance:(3) Strikes has diner décor; nothing terribly special. The mood is slightly fast paced with a fast turnover rate and diners quickly get their food, eat up, and pay on their way out. Location:(5) Located in the city centre, Strikes is a short stroll away from all the shops and shopping centers. It was also a short 1 block away from my hotel, which made it a convenient choice. Service:(3) The lady who took our order started off a but standoffish and brusque. However, after I asked her a couple questions, she quickly warmed up and was very helpful and friendly. Overall:(2) Perhaps the other dishes here are good, but the simple things like my scone and my friend’s toast and eggs were mildly satisfactory, even at the low price point.

Strikes is a guilty pleasure! Their menu consists of burgers, fish chip and everything fried! I must say I’m a sucker for their breakfasts! They do awesome ulster fries with all the trimmings and breads you’d expect and they’re cheap as chips!(pardon the pun) Strikes has a really high turnover and the place never seems to calm down! Its a definite favourite with locals and visitors alike! They do lovely tea and cakes for a quick shopping break and their cod and chips is really rather good. But definitely go for the breakfast if nothing else! My mouth is watering again just thinking about it! The satff are absolutely fantastic and the place has that real homely greasy spoon feel about it! You feel at home as soon as you walk in. Its warm cosy and inviting!

Another diner-type establishment in the High Street area of the city centre, Strikes is perfect if you’re after greasy food — and lots of it! It’s not too expensive either, so it’s a good choice if you want a fast feed in the middle of your day. I wouldn’t expect a culinary delight, but to be honest, it’s better than McDonalds, and only marginally more expensive!

I can’t help it. There is a shameful part of me that just loves hot chips, full burgers and ketchup and ribs and all those sorts of fattening, but oh-so delicious things that I’m really not allowed to eat. But every so often, you just give in and go somewhere like Strikes, and its usually better when you have a partner in crime, like my Mother and I were last week when we were out shopping. We just walked past on the way to our normal place that we have lunch(where we usually have salad!) and stopped outside and ended up going in and having a big dirty great pile of chips and a burger each. Hot, filling, greasy(in the right way) and arriving quickly on your plate. Not a fancy place, a diner in every way possible — if you like this sort of food — it’s a good choice.
