I would go here quite regularly for the Sunday carvery and have always found it gorgeous. Eyes are always bigger than the belly here and I regret every time I can’t clear my plate. The vegetable soup is to die for and I can testify the best hangover cure you will ever find. The choice of food for the carvery is always excellent and they even offer a vegetarian or fish dish which is made to order. Staff are always friendly although sometimes it is so busy the tables aren’t cleared away as quickly as you might like but it’s understandable due to the volume of people who dine here each week.

To be clear this review is for the event venue rather than the hotel. Attended a 30th Birthday at the Landsdown last night and it was fantastic. We live in close proximity to this hotel and walk by on a daily basis but until last night I had never been inside. The function room is spacious, would easily hold 100 and it comes equipped with a bar(bottle and draught) as well as a dance floor. Last night it was laid out in circular tables of ten. The staff working the small bottle bar were great. Really quick. I think they were selling beer quicker than they could refrigerate it last night. Excellent party all in all and a great venue for it. Easily accessible. One thing to note is the entrance to the function room is at the back of the hotel.

My boyfriend recently moved in with me from East Belfast, and being the competitive girlfriend I am I wanted to show what is wonderful about North Belfast and my local«hangouts.» To tell the truth I very rarely do anything in North Belfast so a night out to local establishments seemed like a great idea. We started the night in La Cuisine… More on that in a different review. Then walked down to the Landsdowne Hotel for a few drinks in the local. Now this is certainly not my first time in the Landsdowne, for a number of years me a number of friends gathered here on Christmas Eve for a few drinks, us and the rest of Antrim Road and the surrounding areas, we stopped this tradition after a few years, after realising we have no desire to reunite with melters from our primary school. Anyway! The Landsdowne has had a makeover, well apparently it has, it looks exactly the same to me. We only had a few drinks, reasonably priced and quickly served to us. A couple of girls set up in the corner of the room and performed a set list of current hits and it actually wasn’t a bad night, the place wasn’t too busy and the crowd was a mix of young and old. My only issue is that kids were literally running amuck, I understand the place is family friendly but one wee lad was in heelies, and near sent me flying with 2 pints in my hand! Parents no where to be seen. I have eaten in here in the past and didn’t really enjoy it so I would be interested to try it under the new management. It’s no Horatio Todds in East Belfast, but it’s handy enough for a few drinks!

We had a good time here. The hotel is professionally run and the staff extremely courteous and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. The room rate was reasonable. The breakfast(included) every morning was WONDERFUL. We will stay here again next time too.

The Landsdowne Court Hotel is obviously a place I’ve never stayed personally as there’s literally no need! I have eaten at their restaurant on many an occasion however, and also drank in their bar watching my beloved Tottenham lose yet another game and helping the pints go down that bit faster. The food is ok, nothing in particular that’s very special. Their vegetable soup tastes a little like someone’s winter salad just fell into a bowl of water by mistake and someone decided to make the best of it! But apart from quite a tasteless soup, everything else has always been fine. The bar feels a little bit like a waiting area to me and its open planned look makes me feel way to exposed. I can hear conversations at the other end of the room, which means they can hear mine, which is never cool.

The Lansdowne Hotel reminds me of family functions(hatches, matches and dispatches mostly), so it’s full of memories. I’ve also been there for Christmas dinners and the odd random pin over the years! To be honest, I’m not overly enamoured with it. I’ve never eaten in the restaurant as part of a small party, but people tell me good things about it. I find however, that when it comes to big functions, the food is a let down. It’s just very predictable and not spectacularly prepared. That said, as a party venue, it’s pretty good. There are quite a few function rooms available, depending on what size your party is and the staff are usually pretty good too.

Having just come back fresh from an evening spent here, I felt it my duty to hop straight on with a review. Having lived very near this hotel for most of my life, it’s always considered the local haunt for a quick drink on a Saturday just before the X-Factor starts, or a place to go for a Sunday carvery — my Mum’s favourite word, by the way! The Lansdowne is also known to locals as the place for a full-on North Belfast reunion at Christmas and Easter time… all the old faces come back to haunt you! But seeing it with fresh eyes tonight, it’s not a bad place. I spent this evening at a function there, an award ceremony — and thier main function room was appropriate for it. Everything seemed well organised and looked good. The main foyer seems to offer lots of local information, and there is a large bar/lounge area as well as an outdoor lawn for kids(although I’m not a fan of bringing kids when you’re having a drink — they tend to torture everyone else!) The food tonight was good — a finger buffet with a decent choice. The obligatory cocktail sausages, sandwiches, spring rolls, vol-au-vents and so forth but there were also sticky ribs and onion bhajis — which were, actually really lovely. There was tea and coffee on offer also. I’ve heard some not-so-great reports about the food here from others, but I couldn’t fault it tonight, and it was piping hot and there was plenty of it — none of this taking it away before you’ve had seconds, malarkey. I wouldn’t have had my wedding there — it’s nowhere near special enough, but if you’re staying there or nearby, and are looking for somewhere to whet your whistle — it will do.
