East can be a bit hit and miss which is a pity as I always liked the look of the premises with its unusually shaped window glass which suit the underlying theme of the shop so well and somehow should deliver something distinctive. It doesn’t though for generally the clothes are a bit dull. Although the colours are rich and pretty with deep pinks, blues and violets there isn’t much style there. In fact I had really quite gone off the place. So I was pleasantly surprised the other day to find an altogether more promising array of floral shirts and dresses along with the usual knits — they do a lot of fine knit long cardigans and jumpers — to a degree that made me regret not going there earlier to find a summer dress. There were Indian prints belonging to old Indian label that has somehow, almost, updated itself and some good accessories. It’s not earth shattering but it’s better than I expected.
