DV8 is a fairly frustrating store. I t is basically just a more upper priced D2 which is not a good thing. The price of clothes from here is at the higher end of the high street spectrum which you would think would guarantee you high quality, but I have found that not to be the case. The few times I have been to DV8 I was left unimpressed with both the service and the quality of goods on display. Once I had sifted through the vast piles of frankly chivvy clothes on the male side of things to find jeans I liked there was none in my size, and no nice viable alternatives in my size. Nothing here is that great. The staff are zombielike and inattentive, and it took a while for me to snap a particular member out of their stupor to get them to check something for me. In future it’ll be back to for me!

Not a huge fan of the majority of the clothes in here. They’re all a bit too bright and generic for my tastes, I know they do have an audience but it’s all a bit too ‘look at me’ I think. The ladies section seems more varied than the gents thankfully and they have got tons of nice accessories, shoes, boots bags and that sort of thing. Having said that the shop itself is lovely… all dark wood, plants and nice lighting. Pity they have to play the(cheesy!) music so loud that it makes browsing an endurance test. Anyway’s I did manage to get myself a nice pair of Converse at half the price that Office were selling them for up the road(the Office price was in line with my online research). They were reduced as one of them had been in the window display and the colour had faded slightly in the sun so the pair didn’t match up anymore. When the lady pointed this out, I began to back off so she further reduced the price… I was more that willing to give them a go for £7(seven quid!) and now about 6 weeks later they are both so scuzzied up the colour isn’t an issue anymore. So yeah, there are really good bargains to be had so do call in on the off chance. Pros: Lovely shop, some very good discounts. Cons: Mostly colourful branded goods.

Shudder. So not my type of shop, and one I’d probably never have been in if a mate didn’t have a penchant for buying logo T shirts and the like. The clothes are OK but frankly look like Primark’s would last longer, and they’re very expensive for what they are. Still, we know that expense and the label are the most important things for some people in our fair city. And to be scrupulously fair, the boots I’m wearing right now were bought there, discounted from 40 quid to about 12 — although getting a pair of boots I like in DV8 is probably more down to the fact that the ‘rock chick’ look is now ‘in’(pah), rather than any actual style insights on the part of the DV8 buyers. Still though. It seems a little churlish to review a shop that clearly isn’t my style, just because it isn’t my style, so again to be scrupulously fair the shop is clean, bright and well laid out, and my logo-wearing mate thinks it’s pretty good. Apart from that one time, I only ever pass it on the way to Primark though.

Ah ha! DV8 sounds like Deviate! Clever! So that is the best thing about this shop. Look I don’t mind browsing in this shop. The clothes, despite falling into the«What? £20? It’s only a hat!» category, it is still worth popping in during the sales. Where as I would find myself looking in Topman or River Island or Primark at normal times of the day, DV8 becomes one of those shops that I only go to if there is a sale on. And to be brutally honest I don’t think I’ve ever bought anything out of here. The clothes on the most part are half decent but Nick rightly says alot of it looks like it’ll probably fall apart pretty quickly. But I know people who would go in here and get themselves something quicker than anywhere else because it is branded. However, I like to browse branded clothing, not pay for it. Good shop for looking in. Bad shop for buying in. Three Stars

Other reviewers have said this place does not resemble a clothes shop but it certainly is. DV8 is all about the big brands, there are more labels in here than there are in a label factory, poor metaphor I know but I went out there and said it anyway. It really is not a shop that I would buy from, for a start it is ridiculously over priced and secondly the clothes are just not me. I do not understand spending silly money on jeans or in excess of £60 for a t-shirt. When I was a little bit younger and more impressionable I used to want to buy clothes from DV8 but now I have got a job and no longer receive pocket money I do not spend my cash here. I suppose its just not my thing and I can not completely fault DV8, they cater to a market and they seem to do pretty well for themselves. The staff are nice and they are helpful but it would take a lot of convincing for me to part with money for clothes from DV8.

DV8, as a store looks fantastic. It reminds me of a grand public library rather than a clothes shop. The style of the shop is almost appeal enough to go in and have a look but that’s where the appeal ends for me. I find the clothes here to be pretty basic and more often than not pretty darned ugly. When you add the price, which is usually astronomical, to the blah looking clothes it puts me off even more. Maybe they should just fill this place with books. It would be an improvement.

Like a slightly lower spec version of the Abercrombie Shop in London DV8 on Castle Street is similarly fitted out with dark wooden shelving and marble flooring, though that is where the comparison ends. This branch is quite extensive with a substantial selection of women and mens clothes, footwear and even a maternity range. In smaller branches of DV8 I have quite often found nice clothes though it all depends on the time of the year, which currently does not look good for clothes in here but the winter boots and shoes were quite a few steps ahead. However, overall, I’ve seen better from DV8 but a week or two further into autumn could make all the difference to the stock.
