With tasty ice-cream, sundaes, slices of cake, cheesecake, tray-bakes and more, this Café Mauds is well worth a visit for a treat or a coffee. You can sit in or take away. We recently took home some cake and it was delicious and was a generous helping. The red velvet cake is just amazing!

Great ice cream. Love the mix ins. Choose stuf to be mixed in with your ice cream. Always very busy. Need more seating. Lighting is way too bright. Have a special hot choc menu. I had Reece’s cup one. Was different. Hot choc is hot compared to luke warm stuff.

As I’ll be doing the Great Vegan Challenge I wanted to try Café Mauds before November, so I visited today. An extremely helpful Waiter talked me through all the ice cream desserts. After asking what he’d recommend, then completely ignoring his suggestions, I opted for a berry mess. He had the patience of a Saint! This ‘mess’ consisted of mashed up vanilla ice cream, berries and chocolate. It was delicious. Unfortunately Mauds don’t offer any dairy free alternatives such as fruit sorbets or soya based ice creams, which is disappointing. Mauds also don’t have wifi, which is weird considering nearly everywhere does now! I would happily return to Mauds, but would probably just eat my food and run as it is a bit too bright(please turn down the lighting), too noisy(screaming kids) and devoid of wifi. Still, the savoury food of quiches, tarts and sandwiches looked really good so I’d like to return to try those.

I’m not going to lie… but I actually haven’t eaten anything other than ice cream in here! The food that I have seen come out looks lovely & the menu is totally up my street for a nice«Lisburn Road lunch».fancy sandwiches, quiches etc… But I always end up at the ice cream counter(it’s the first thing u see when u walk in!!). The décor in here is lovely too. hard to get the window seat though for a bit of people watching. Only one loo which can be a pain to wait for! Anyways.back to the ice cream! Mauds has always been my «go to» ice cream! I don’t mess about I go in for the«pooh bear» aka honey comb. the vanilla & the Belgian chocolate(it’s not chocolate more like vanilla with chocolate biscuit texture through it!) So these are my fave favours & u just can’t go wrong with this ice cream(only that it doesn’t last very long!!). Oh & they do Mix Up’s… This means u pick ur ice cream flavour. a few toppings(kit Kats, Oreos, nuts, marshmallows) & then it all gets mixed in on a cold plate & out into ur bowl. AMAZING! Café Maud’s is a real treat. the staff are lovely & the coffee is goooood but the ice cream is better!

I have been to Café Mauds a few times recently and it is very, very good(although it is at the far end of the Lisburn Road, boooo). They offer all the usual ice cream cones that any normal Mauds outlet like Belgian chocolate and Pooh Bear but a lot more sweet and savoury delights too. For instance, and I still can’t quite believe it, you can get a proper Italian-style thin-based pizza!!! sweet and savoury crepes, and a huge selections of sundaes, milkshakes, ‘mix-uns’(ice cream and toppings all mixed up together) as well as tea, coffee, hot chocolate and soft drinks. The selection really is brilliant and you get time to make your decision as every time I have been it had been VERY busy catering for a very wide-ranging clientele from school-girls in chatting loudly, families with kids running about playing to the older generation enjoying a quiet cuppa. Despite this I’ve never had a problem with service, quality or getting a place to sit and I rather like the bustling atmosphere. I usually get a Pooh Bear mix-un but on my last visit I got the warm hot chocolate fudge brownie Sundae, compiling of a huge amount of chocolate ice-cream, but of fudge and brownies, lashings of chocolate sauce and whipped cream and by Jove it was spectacular. I have yet to sample a pizza or savoury crêpe but definitely on my next visit!!!

Mauds Café on the Lisburn Road is something else, by something else I am not sure what I actually mean, seriously though, we went at nearly 9pm last night and had to wait to get a seat. It’s as if the people of Belfast have only just discovered the phenomenon of ice cream. Anyway we queued for the simple reason that I had seen a picture of Mauds Sundaes on Unilocal and I had to have one. There’s a real shrill buzz about Mauds Café, the hum of teenage girls giggling, grannies chatting and couples flirting lingers in the air and creates a quite unique atmosphere. I commented that I couldn’t work there because this noise would get incessant. Speaking of working there, hats off to the staff who do an amazing job of keeping the thriving café running smoothly. There’s so much on the menu that I didn’t know about. They do savory crêpes, paninis, sandwiches and of course Ice Cream which is what we came for. As mentioned I was determined to get the Hot Brownie Sundae with Belgium Chocolate and that’s exactly what I got. The Sundae cost £5.95 and I think it was an absolute steal at that price. The hot brownies melted the chocolate ice cream and caused it to ooze over the edge of the glass. The thick, rich chocolate sauce that was drizzled over the top of the sundae brought the calorie count up to around 5000(only kidding — but it wouldn’t be far off). I was actually going to give Café Mauds 3 stars but as we were leaving one of the staff members held the door open for us and said ‘I hope you enjoyed your evening here’, that left me feeling all warm and fuzzy, or that could have been the sugar high? Either way I was a happy chap!

The apple pie and tea was delicious but after waiting 30 minutes for our order, which ended up being wrong we were met by a very hostile and aggressive waitress who made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome, in fact another member of staff had to even step in and ask that the waitress refrain from discussing cusromers infront of other customers. an overall unpleasant experience. Won’t be back, ruined a perfectly good evening. Feeling disappointed.

A cold sweet tub of awesomeness. I enjoy ice-cream but I would never rant and rave about it but by God do Mauds make the nicest Ice cream in N.I. That’s a fact right there. There scoops are large and quality lip licking. If you’ve not tried then you don’t deserve your taste buds. Food on Joe
