Bar Citrus’s problem is that it has never decided what it wants to be a Euro-style café-cum-eatery or(as the name indicates) a bar. It’s a decent little venue, with a reasonably good bar stock(plenty of wine, and a choice of Red Stripe, Kronenbourg, Guinness or Eagle as beers), and does good wholesome tasty and slightly overpriced/under-rationed food(I mean, I’ve heard of portion control but really!). The outside chairs make an ideal place for people watching, and inside you have a choice of daily newspapers to help pass the time. Non-alcoholic drinks are good although their coffee is IMHO overpriced(but you do get a free chocolate yay!). I remember this bar being a pub called the Stanley Arms until the mid-1990s. Now THAT was a dive! All in all, a friendly little place. PS: Whoever it was whingeing about cocktails was obviously unlucky in my experience Bar Citrus’s cocktails are very good, and it’s about the only place in town I would trust the barstaff to mix anything more complicated than a Red Bull and vodka.

Doesn’t feel like a town centre pub at all, despite its location. Clean, friendly and intimate, Bar Citrus is an excellent and quieter joint for the thirties crowd who enjoy cocktails. They’ll even lend you a board game if you ask.

As mentioned below it’s quite a way away from the other pubs and clubs so it is one of the less busy bars at the weekends. In my opinion though that’s no bad thing as you can actually go there with some friends and talk to one another(I knowcrazy past-time isn’t it). Never had any of their cocktails so can’t judge but the beer tastes good and the prices are reasonable. :-)

A pub in that is just outside of the night-life range. It is very modern with drinks reasonably priced but is more of sit-down place. A friendly welcoming environment perfect for that afternoon drink.

Bar Citrus is the only pub/bar on Harpur Street in Bedford. It has more of a coffee shop style to it than a pub though as during the day its filled with council workers sipping lattes. It serves food though i have never eaten here so i cannot comment on the quality but a few friends eat here so it must be ok. In the evening it is still very quiet, people tend to go here for cocktails as they do a wide range but its not really party central and attracts an older crowd. Its a bit too quiet for me, if i am going to a pub i want to feel like i can laugh and not get told off!
