Love the many different kinds of black licorice and the sheer variety of candies which you can buy by the pound with no minimum, so you can try a little of everything. We have nothing like this in the states. Love the atmosphere too. Friendly people. A must when in Bath. One thing I liked too — and not sure this is still true — they stayed open a little later than most stores. I do hope Mr. Simms stays in business and the council doesn’t get greedy and raise their rent 100% like they have done elsewhere, killing the unique stores in Bath.

I was absolutely appalled by all of the sweet shops I did NOT find in London. I asked the locals and they said I’d find some good ones in Bath. I did! This gem reminded me of Willie Wonka! Some of the British candies were foreign to me and I had no idea if get samples if I was interested in them. So I asked the girls to describe them and they treated me with a sample! They do have the American candies, some British candies that you can buy everyone and then the good stuff: the homemade looking stuff or things that another shop makes. I did spend a lot here for my dad, myself and my boyfriends family, but it was worth it. They have all kinds of truffles that I did buy three of for my boyfriend, licorice for my dad, it had fondant like in the center of the licorice and I did try. I didn’t end up buying any of the chocolates that have different things on top of them for flavor and appearance. I suggest trying those though because they looked fantastic. I would definitely come here for vibes, to browse and to buy!

This place is not only super cute but the staff inside was super friendly. They let us try tons of candy before settling on our choices. My friend had been hunting for a good old fashioned sweet shoppe in England so she went nuts… and I have to admit that I had fun too. This place is the real deal with everything from toffee and caramels to oldies and American imports. Helpful and friendly and fun! Must must must com here if you are in Bath(or even if you aren’t).

You know that phrase: «kid in a candy store?» Think: candies displayed in old glass jars, chocolates made from the U.K.(bought boxes of rose cream filled one for mom and dark chocolate covered ginger for my friend), toffee, caramels, gummies and even some American candy. You think it, they probably have it. This place has that nostalgic atmosphere and sweet aromas which make you feel so good just by being in the shop. You can’t go wrong with chocolate anything and English toffee that’ll stick to your teeth; these are the stuff that your friends dream of. And it’s so much better than that Roman Bath magnet that’s just gonna sit there and collect dust. Thank me later! ;-)

This is not quite the olde traditional sweete shoppe thate you mighte be expectinge from the name, but if you can make it through the packed, modern and more gimicky candy bit at the front then you will emerge to see the desired shelves of tubs that make for a proper authentic sweet shop! The midget gems were delicious!

I have seen many a grown man crumble at the sight of strawberry bon bons, sugar laces and popping candy in this authentically olde worlde sweet shop. The idea for this aladdin’s cave of sugary delights came from a sepia photograph the owners saw on a confectionnary newspaper. And when you walk through its doors you’ll see how authentically fifties this sweet shop is. The owners of the shop obviously love what they do, and will enthusiastically talk you through all their stock and help you make your choice. I can guarantee if you go back to your office with a bag of sweets from Mr Simms — you’ll be the most popular person at work.
