Villa Boheme

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay here, and only used this place primarily as base camp for sleeping. Our room was small, and had a peek through stair view of the bay but that was okay as we spent most our time relaxing in the many outdoor seating it had to offer. We also took advantage of the on site tour option to see Culebrita and snorkel and that exceeded our expectations. It’s a must see as Capt Rico took care of us and really allowed us to get a 1:1 feel of the island as home. Only negative was the beds. They were not very comfortable but this was not enough to deter any stars. Thank you for a lovely stay. We do hope to come back.

Our queen bed room had partial ocean view. It was small, simple, clean, & old. However, the location was excellent. A few minutes away walk to the main part of town. The great thing here is that you face the water, the hotel has a boardwalk/​dock with seating & great views. Private & small commercial boats leave from here as well. Lucdy, the manager, is very helpful. They will also rent snorkeling gear. Let her know if you are arriving after 6pm. There is plenty of street parking for golf carts. Sleep was quiet. There was hot water. No breakfast provided here, but they have a kitchen for your food. They also have showers for you to use after checkout, which was helpful. Overall, very good value for the money.

Right on the water, kitchen facilities, hammocks, a walk away from everything… we have stayed at Villa Boheme twice and enjoyed it both times. Very good for groups, or for a romantic vacation for a couple.

Our trip was largely unplanned and we ended up booking this hotel at the last minute in the evening on the last ferry ride to Culebra. Though outside of normal hours, the owner Rico was a very gracious and professional host and gladly booked us a room. We are lucky we chose this hotel, Rico runs a top notch operation. If you are staying in Culebra this hotel is THE hotel to stay at. Don’t question it, just book it!

I was expecting Villa Boheme to be an acceptable low-​end hotel, but I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful deck, which has couches, wicker chairs, hammocks, and tables — all in all, probably two dozen places to sit and enjoy the beautiful view. The place was clean, had extra outside bathrooms, had a communal kitchen that was well-​stocked with supplies (and free coffee!). It also offered free beach towels. Make sure to go to the Dinghy Dock restaurant/​bar next door.

If you want to stay «in town» aka «Dewey», then this is the place for you. Granted, there are not many other choices, but most weekend visitors (from the big island) camp at Flamenco beach and others staying a week + tend to do so in a private house or at a resort but… most people I met staying at resorts wished they stayed in town for what little nightlife there is.
It’s a block or two from the «town» dock but about a 5 minute walk from the ferry dock (aka ferry from Fajardo on the big island to Isla Culebra). If you come in by boat from the big island, you can dock right at Villa Boheme. If you come in to the Culebra airport (which I recommend if you are traveling to the big island first – Cessna! Front seat! 20 minute flight in veritable puddlejumper!), you’ll either want to taxi it here, or pick up your rental jeep/​golf cart at Carlos’s Rental.
The rooms are small and sparse, but are totally carribean-​serviceable in an island way. All of them have air conditioning.
There is a communal kitchen – big and clean enough – and a grill on the patio – which we used – and a satellite TV – which comes in handy if a tropical storm comes your way – which it did. One block or so from Milka, the grocery store that has liquor. This is important for some of us (cough cough me).
Warning: you do not have a reservation for room if you have not pre-​paid at least one night’s stay. No matter how many emails you send confirming your reservation and no matter how many emails you get saying you have a reservation. Luckily, they had a room (and JUST ONE) available when I arrived. I still had to deal with some attitude… as if this was my fault. I had the email on my iPhone and it was agreed that, yes, one would interpret this email as an actual reservation.
I’ll probably be back in the next month or so, and I will be staying here again.

A little walk away from the boat dock. I liked this place as it looked it it was meticulously decorated. Loved having the option of a kitchen where I could cook up the-​completely-​unavailable-​vegetarian-​food on the island. Grocery store pretty close (so get an extra star). Lady was pretty nice and helpful. not sure if I’ll stay here again as the room size was really really small. I would like to give this place 3.5 stars though for the view and the quiet location.

This place is in town (Dewey) which is convenient, and right on the water. I highly recommend room 11. It’s on the 2^nd floor, a king size bed with kitchenette and balcony. The property is right on the water with outdoor tables. The balcony from the room overlooks the bay. The room was clean and the staff very friendly. It’s also right next to the Dinghy Dock, a popular restaurant and bar. A lot of the locals hang out at this bar… it has a TV too. We paid $ 100 for the room in the off season (November). We were told that it goes for $ 140 during the high season. I will stay here next time i’m on Culebra.
