I’ve loved Whoopie since they first opened their Grey Lynn store and was super glad when they moved to Newmarket which is a little closer to home. The larger whoopie pies mean you can get a few and share, but the smaller size are just perfect if you’re by yourself. Their shakes are to die for — but make sure you visit on an empty stomach and don’t plan anything strenuous after as you’ll need a nap for sure! I tried the hazelnut espresso the other week and it was a new favourite, although we did the Hot Cross Bun and Carrot Cake whoopies one Easter and they were pretty special too. The owners are super friendly, and are great at suggestions(although hard not to be when everything they sell is delicious) — I love the fact that they are constantly creating specials and seasonal treats. Whoopie is another regular stop on my Newmarket circuit — although I try and save for a day when I’ve already been for a run!

How did I live 22 years of my life without knowing these delicious treats existed?!? The snickerdoodle flavour was sent down to earth by cupcake Angels and I’m going to be eternally grateful. The Newmarket café is cosy and the owners always decorate the store for special holidays such as Halloween, which makes them all the more loveable. They have lovely umbrella seats outside and tabletop games for you to enjoy. Furthermore, the coffee is fantastic!

I can’t really describe my love for this place in words, but let’s just say that whoever came up with the idea to place a whoopie pie store in Newmarket is a genius. These whoopie pies are of great quality, taste amazing and are at a reasonable price. The staff are SO friendly, the atmosphere of the store is very cosy and colourful. It’s just a shame that the place is so tiny.

I had no idea what a whoopie pie was until I read about this new café opening up in Newmarket called ‘Whoopie’. I had actually never even seen a whoopie pie either, so I was quite excited about this new Kiwi take on a classic American treat! Once I heard it was two cakes sandwiched together with a creamy filling, I was absolutely hooked! My sister and I decided that we would try this place out and we are very glad we did. [Side note: make sure you go on an empty stomach because one Whoopie pie is filling!] We tried the ‘Heroic’ whoopie pie which is hazelnut and chocolate flavoured and the ‘Playful’ whoopie pie which consists of peanut butter and chocolate chunks. I was somewhat expecting a dry cake, but in fact it was incredibly moist! The filling just makes it a whole lot better! As well as selling whoopie pies, they also sell ‘Whoopie Pops’(which look so nice in-store), hot drinks, milkshakes and ice cream sundaes — would could be more perfect?

This place is RAD. Formerly in Grey Lynn, WP relocated to this *sweet* Newmarket shop at the beginning of the year, making it extra handy to my workplace. I love this… my «physique», not so much ;) Entering here is basically like entering Whoopie Pie Heaven. They’ve taken an American classic and added a kiwi twist with flavours such as Hokey Pokey Chocolate, Anzac Cookie, Tangelo and Mixed Berry, Lamington… and the list goes on. They have two pie sizes, too, depending on your hunger/sweet tooth levels. «Whoopie Pops» are also on offer– a mixture of the pie and filling dipped in white chocolate. Can’t reallllly go wrong there. Also awesome: dairy free, egg free and gluten free options available #winning.
