I love Movenpick, what more can I say — I’m sure you all know it and know what you are getting. I haven’t had an icecream since Summer and it was interesting to have on a chilly night. The flavour I chose was the Flavour of the Month — Double Cream and Meringue. You really could feel the texture of the bits of Meringue and it was very creamy. The flavour of the month comes with free toppings so I chose my fav — caramel. mmmmmm

Ahhh the memories. Movenpick used to be the ultimate treat when I was at high school. Every time I’d order the same thing — 2 scoops(dulce de leche and vanilla brownie) with caramel sauce in a cone. For some reason, Movenpick from the shop tastes waaaay better than Movenpick from a tub in your freezer. I think a lot of it has to do with the smell of them making the cones when you walk in. That smell… it’s like heaven on earth. Anyway Movenpick Takapuna is great. It’s open late and there’s plenty of seating nearby for you to enjoy your scoop(s) without making a sticky mess. I must admit, if it’s open Takapuna Beach Café is my first choice but Movenpick is hardly a bad second choice!

Grabbed some ice cream on a hot summer day and let me just say this place had THE best mint chocolate chip ice cream I have ever had in my life. It was so creamy and minty and the chocolate was incredible. Instead of using chocolate chips, this ice cream used chocolate flakes, so they melted beautifully in my mouth with each bite. I highly recommend stopping by and grabbing a sweet treat on a hot day, you’ll be happy you did :)

My favourite ice cream but sadly not the best service :( Mission Bay is absolutely lovely, especially for going on a nice romantic date, and having Movenpick there makes it even better. However, some of the staff can be so rude, and make such stupid sarcastic comments that it’s a real shame. Just makes the experience worthless. Especially the Movenpick located on Quay Street. I honestly, don’t know who picks the staff there but they make visits really uncomfortable due to their unprofessionalism and lazy attitudes. But… they aren’t stopping me from getting my ice cream! Oh! And also they make pretty good crapes as well!

Mission Bay is so pretty and what better way to enjoy it but with a sweet treat in hand! Hubby and friend had delicious ice cream, but I opted for a hot chocolate. All very good and the service was quick and friendly! We even ended up coming back again on our way out a few weeks later. Definitely try it out, but really you can’t go wrong with NZ ice creams!

My partner and I frequent Mission Bay a few times a month. We don’t have Movenpick often and that’s usually because after dinner we’re stuffed, and the chances of me finishing a Movenpick ice cream on my own is slim. I do love their ice cream though, and anything with chocolate in it is good in my book. Their sorbet is also delicious and perfect for that hot summer day. They’ve got mango and passionfruit and raspberry and strawberry– both amazing and great for a sweet and fruity treat. The last few times I’ve been here I’ve ordered off of their hot dessert menu. Most of the items here are great and well-priced and I just enjoy the fact that I can have a slice of fudge AND ice cream together– beautiful. Misson Bay Movenpick gets so busy, so if you’re like me and you’re a fan of hot desserts, I’d start looking for a table as soon as possible– they disappear quickly.

I assume everybody has taken the trip out to Mission Bay for some ice cream and walk down the beach at some point in their later teen years. Movenpick is pretty nice ice cream, and there are heaps and heaps of flavours to choose from, but lordy, is it ever so sweet and sickening. I cannot get through a whole cone. Even the cone has way too much sugar in it; you’ll be up all night. The shop itself is always busy and tends not to be worth it, but when you’ve come to Mission Bay solely for ice cream, it’s hard to not wait in line. The chocolate ice cream is definitely my favourite, as is the maple walnut one. Yummo.

I am not a stalwart of the Movenpick bandwagon by any means but I would rarely say no to a chocolate brownie covered in cream, as well as icecream. I assume I am an unlikely customer at Movenpick as I could count how many times I have had a icecream and cone on one hand, although my number of visits would be in the double digits. I tend to go purely for dessert, as I used to flat in the area, but am guessing now these visits will become more infrequent. I often ordered the chocolate fudge brownie, which could be conveniently packed into plastic takeaway containers. The hot/warm brownie was in one container, and the cooler icecream and cream in another, to ensure they each maintained their temperature. I found it extremely tasty, hence my regular return visits and order of the same thing.

I think I am the only person in the whole of Auckland who doesn’t absolutely adore Movenpick? Seriously? Sure, the icecream servings are huge. Sure, it comes in freshly made waffle cones which you can see being made in front of you. Sure, it is Swiss in origin(or at least advertised thus). But to be quite honest… I don’t find that it tastes mind-blowingly awesome. I liked the chocolate flavour, and the chocolate flakes in it are really good. But the rest of the flavours don’t do much for me, and I found that the waffle cone has a kind of unpleasant after taste(pleasant to some, but not to me). Strange. Obviously I am in the minority and I risk being shunned by the majority of the Auckland population judging from the sheer popularity of the place. But, freedom of speech and all that, right?
