A few friends have been here and raved about Fika. I was a little apprehensive it being in Birkenhead(which I don’t really associate as a place with a big foodie vibe). I have so say I was really impressed. There was nothing bad to say about Fika. The service was friendly and attentive, the coffee perfect, the décor a mix of modern and rustic that works really well. The breakfast menu is a combination of traditional breakfast fare(eggs benedict, big breakfast, eggs on toast) with some great contemporary breakfast options. I had cornbread which is freshly made with loads of real corn throughout, smeared with smashed avocado and topped with smoked salmon and poached eggs. It was devine. The creamy mushrooms looked great as well and multiple people had recommended them to me. They are large pieces of mushroom in a lovely sauce with chorizo. The coconut french toast went down a treat with our group as well. I’ll be back here for sure to make sure I make it through all the great menu options.

Get your fika on and get out of the CBD! Birkenhead adds to its collection of interesting cafés with the interestingly named Fika With Me, a Swedish phrase for have a coffee with me. The daytime menu includes a combination of breakfast and lunch options such as fried poached eggs(yes, both done to the same eggs), eggs Benedict, chilli scrambled eggs, mushrooms, corn bread and salads. The ingredients are fresh and the cooking is faultless. All that’s missing is a smörgåsbord. Worth checking out if you are looking for something new.
