We’re in here regularly to get takeaway sushi. Love the interesting pieces like the pickled green bean roll and the avocado and carrots; plus the more normal fare of tuna and chicken. Always good, always fresh. Nice and affordable too for a student budget. Ordered a few hot meals before, the spicy chicken udon is my favourite so far. The boyfriend likes the potato mash and chives croquettes.

Saw this place and all their awards in the window while walking toward Mt Eden. Stopped in on the way down and were able to select from a wide variety of sushi and maki with amazingly fresh ingredients and great rice. Water and tea available on the side, charged per piece. Really surprising find – wish it was near our home as would do takeout all the time – would visit again for sure!

The best range of sushi ever with so much to choose from and they are quite filling. They aren’t too over priced and they do have nice portion sizes. They also have an equally nice menu for dons and curry. Green tea is also available for free! It is best to arrive a bit before 12 since it gets really busy. If you are lucky, you may run into John Campbell or reporters from TV3!

I’m not sure if my opinion of this place was slightly influenced by a) all the amazingly positive things I’d heard, so went in expecting AMAZING, or b) how good the sushi I can get out west is, but I’ve definitely been underwhelmed by Bian both times I’ve visited. I thought the range of fillings was great, and was impressed that they had a good range of brown rice sushi(though it was noticeably smaller pieces than the white rice stuff), but I wasn’t hugely impressed by the flavours of the sushi(a bit bland?), or the way it fell apart when I attempted to eat most pieces… It’s definitely heaps better than the stuff you can get at a lot of the chain sushi places in malls, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit again. A good choice if you’re in Eden Terrace and in need of a quick lunch, though.

Come here basically everyday and not because its cheap and clean. The lunch sushi range is so good! The variety is great and cheap. The udon/ramen are incredibly small and aren’t authentic japanese noodles.(From the broth to the toppings) But taste pretty good if you are up for something weird. Must try pumpkin sushi!

Pretty good! Tried the eel, salmon & avo, fried fish sushi — all tasted fresh, and the prices were quite reasonable. Could have skipped the fried scallops — too heavily fried in my book.

Just when you think the premise of great sushi can’t get any better, it does! Eating sushi at Bian is a transcendent experience. Tasty little morsels are just waiting here to make sweet love to your taste buds. There is a fantastic range of sushi and donburi available, from slivers of rare beef resting on top of white pillows of rice, fried croquettes, salmon nigiri. Everything is freshly prepared and you can just tell its been lovingly prepared, this sushi doesn’t have any self esteem problems let me assure you! The ability to be able to choose your own sushi, makes it a personalised experience every time. At $ 1-$ 2 every individual piece it works out to be roughly the same price as pre packaged packs that retail or about $ 8 elsewhere, it just depends on how much you want to get, I went back for seconds. What I like most about Bian is that it has your own DIY saucing station, so you can smother your sushi with as much of that delightful spring onion mayo as you can handle.

We really are spoilt for choice when it comes to sushi in Auckland, and Bian is arguably one of the best choices the discerning weeaboo could make. It’s a small place, with seating that seems to always be filled, and when it gets busy there is almost not enough standing room for the hordes waiting for takeaway. They offer a wide variety of interesting choices of Sushi, as well as other Japanese staples — one of my favorite being the potato balls. if you dine in, I recommend mixing your soy sauce with wasabi to create the ultimate dipping sauce — I call it WaSoyBi. They also offer free green tea, which can help to quell the burning that can come if you put too much wasabi in.

The sushi you can get at Bian is off the hook. It’s freshly made and room temperature, which is miles better than the cold, refrigerated stuff you are offered at other establishments we won’t mention. The variety of flavours is extensive — your standard salmon and avocado, teriyaki chicken, etc is on offer, but it would be worth branching out. It’s pick your own and pay per piece, so very ‘flavour trying’ friendly. I can recommend the fried prawn, crispy chicken and spicy salmon rolls and the seared beef tataki nigiri, as well as the salmon donburi. If you dine in, you can help yourself to the wasabi and ginger and soy. There’s also complimentary green tea. It’s a cracker.

What makes this small, inconspicuous sushi shop so great, to the point that you would rather only take a select few, very close friends and then wipe their memory afterwards, is the quality of the food. The large pieces of sushi are brimming with filling, not just rice. The miso doesn’t taste like watery tea, it tastes like a soup. And delicious donburi for very reasonable prices. Bian sushi has an intimate dine in area, hiding the busy road behind frosted windows. Or you can take away by pre-ordering or by choosing from the selection on offer. The walls are already lined with some rave reviews and around lunch time you can see that this little restaurant has made a big name amongst Aucklands diners.

We’re all pretty familiar with sushi — you get one teriyaki chicken, one salmon and avocado, one fried crab, etc… Bian subvert these expectations with their slightly unorthodox sushi fillings. Lettuce, pumpkin, fried fish, mushroom, all kinds of things. And due to the care attention placed on the preparation, it all works. This is about as good as I’ve had when it comes to sushi in Auckland. They also do donburi and udon and other hot meals which I’ve yet to try but which I’ve seen other people eating, and they look pretty good too. You can eat in if you want but the place isn’t huge so if it’s busy(and it does get busy) taking food away might be the better option.

If you love sushi, you must visit this place — it’s worth the slight hike from the city. This sushi must be made with love because it is fantastic. Around lunchtime the line can stretch outside the door, but it is worth the wait! Or you could order online to save time which is pretty awesome right? There is a variety of flavours, with some you might not have seen before, like the vegetarian option that includes pumpkin. I also can’t go past the nigiri sushi(teriyaki and salmon flavours). Sushi is purchased by the piece, there is also hot meals and you can dine in. My mouth is watering again just thinking about this place.
