We went to satya on Thursday evening having heard great things — my partner and I were shown a table — only one other table was in the place and we were completely ignored until we left — went to paradise up the road which was delicious

I am a huge fan of restaurants that are reasonably priced and punch above their weight. Satya combines these qualities with a welcoming family atmosphere and authentically scrumptious south Indian offerings. When my partner’s parents were in town from the south island, this is where I took them. The dahi puri and lamb south Indian style will haunt your dreams and keep you coming back time after time :)

Came here for a byo in a big group and we loved it. The food was great but unfortunately my curry(I always order medium — hot) was no more than mild. The Dahi Puri entrée is probably one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Can’t wait to go back just for that!!! We stayed quite late(close to 11pm) and it was clear that the staff were trying to get rid of us(and the other party that still remained) Good food, okay-good service. Just disappointing that my curry was so mild. I could’ve made a scene and sent it back but decided not to. Would definitely recommend.

Finally made it to this much-recommended Indian restaurant last week, and it was delicious! I’ve had Southern Indian cuisine before, and am a big fan of the masala dosa, so naturally, it was what I ordered. It was different from dosas I’ve had before — not bad, just different. The ones I’ve had in the past were very long, rolled up and crispy. This was more like a bubbly, slightly thick triangular crêpe. Still yummy, though. My husband got chicken tikka masala, and I tried a bit and was blown away. Really amazing flavour! We also tried the dahi puri, but I wasn’t the biggest fan, unfortunately. The staff were friendly enough, although when we arrived most of the restaurant tables were covered in dirty dishes and we had to wait for a table to be wiped down before we could sit anywhere. But still, the food was delicious and since it’s within walking distance of my house, I’ll definitely be back!

I grew up in a meat and three vege family so my earliest experience of eating Indian food was when my uncle used to take my cousins and I to an all you can eat Indian Restaurant in Dunedin. My cousins were rugby players and we were all poor students so we loved it but I’ve got admit the food wasn’t great — super heavy, sugar laden curries. A far cry from what you’ll get at Satya. For starters, Satya is a South Indian restaurant so the curries are a lighter style with a thinner sauce, generally made with coconut. But on top of this their curries are made with a certain finesse — no heavy hands here — instead a delicate balance of spices, without all the sugar! Their menu is extensive and for someone like me, who is no expert, it can be intimidating. Luckily, two of our dining companions had travelled extensively throughout India and guided us through the ordering process. We ordered several dishes to share. My favourites were the Dahi Puri entrée — delicious bit sized morsels of potato & chickpea with tangy tamarind chutney and yoghurt on a crispy chickpea cracker — and the eggplant coconut with potato, green peas and ginger. To be honest, I don’t think you could go too far wrong no mater what you ordered. Because there is so much to try Satya is best enjoyed with a group, plus it’s BYO and they take bookings! It may be more expensive that your typical Indian takeaway but trust me, it’s worth it!

This is the best Indian I’ve had in Auckland. Yes, I know that’s a big call… Came here for Unilocal Curry Club last week, and thought all the dished we tried — like palak paneer, masala dosa, dhal makhani, dhal puri, eggplant curry and parathas — were delicious and authentic. So many Indian restaurants here serve up claggy and overly-sweet dishes with cardboard-like naan. Plus it’s really hard to find the fresher cuisine from South India, where I spent a month tripping around last year, eating dosas every morning for breakfast(see Unilocal profile pic!!) … and have been craving them ever since! A great place to enhance your curry repertoire with friends. Is also BYO. Will definitely return.

Pretty glad to have given this place a chance for Curry Club, given the terrible experience I had at the K-Rd location. This location has a cozier, more upscale feel than the k-rd location. More importantly, the food is not quite so loaded with sugar as at the other spot. The Dahi Puri was on point, with unsweetened yoghurt, as it should be. I did detect a bit of sweetness in the Palak Paneer that I wish hadn’t been there, but overall, it was pretty solid. We also got a masala dosa, dahl makhani, and the eggplant curry, which I found to be quite good. Parathas were yummy, though not quite as flaky as I prefer. Overall, it was a hit, and I’ll likely be back for some dosa and chaat action. Would love if they cut down some of the sweetness in their dishes, just not necessary! Oh and it’s BYOW which is great!

WHOA!!! I have been dying to try Satya for so long! I walk past frequently and always admire the colorful décor. But now i have a whole new appreciation for this place= the food! I have never been to India, let alone south India so my knowledge of this cuisine is limited. The menu at Satya is vast, there are so many amazing options to try. Luckily we had friends with us who were very familiar with the menu and the Indian cuisine. Between 6 of us we shared a variety of curries, each was AMAZING! Unfortunately i can’t remember all the names, but my personal fav was the prawn. The food is fresh and very authentic, the serving sizes are decent too. The atmosphere at Satya is very relaxed and calm. It’s a comfy place to share a meal with friends. I am so excited to go again, there are so many dishes on the menu i’m dying to try.

This is the best Indian we have enjoyed … ever! It is so authentic — each dish lovingly prepared. We have been back to Satya several times, each time introducing different friends, and each time we are impressed yet again. Our favourites mains so far are the Rava Dosa with Lamb Korma, the Egg Plant curry, and the Chicken Tikka Masala. For entrees you must try the Dahi Puri, and the Masala Papadam. The Satya Chicken entrée is also a favourite. The atmosphere is cosy and inviting, and the service is very friendly and helpful. If you want a genuine Indian experience with flavours that explode in your mouth I can’t recommend Satya enough. You will get like us, and start craving your next Satya curry!

My favorite Indian restaurant in Auckland! They actually make spicy curries! I love their chicken tikki masala. I’ve also had all their shrimp dishes and a few veggie mains. All were really good. I’ve never had anything bad at Satya. Only problem is that they don’t have naan, although they do have a replacement.

Loved the place! The décor was really bright and vibrant and the whole place had a lovely authentic feel to it. The service was extremely friendly and the food came out fast — luckily because I was starving. Now I actually can’t remember what it was I ordered for the entrée but it had«must try» written next to it on the menu! So I thought I better not disobey! It was scrumptious. It had a really different taste than what I’m used to and it did exactly what it said it would in the menu — livened up my taste buds! Because I’m boring I got the Butter Chicken for my main. Some seriously quality Butter Chicken I might add. The chicken was beautifully cooked and had a great texture. Usually I crave the ButterChick simply because of that delicious sauce but this dish was perfect all round! Great atmosphere, great food! Would happily come again.

I had to come here as my husband keeps going on about how good this place his, he comes here a few times a month with a group from work. So I had to come and try it for myself as I do love good Indian. I think it might be that its South Indian food, cause its really good, and nice and homemade tasting which is really what the best curry is all about. I tried the Rogan Josh which is really good, for entrée the Samosas are great and come with some really tasty sauces to go with them. They have a lunch menu which is around $ 10.00 per curry so it can get quite busy around this time, and sometimes the service isn’t quite as good as expected, but the fact they are busy is a good sign right. Its a great Indian restaurant in Mt Eden and will have to go and meet my husband for lunch more often and next time will try something completely different. Hours: Lunch: Mon — Fri 11am — 2pm Dinner: Mon — Sun 5pm — 10pm
