Mmmmm I don’t really know why my parents like to come to Uncle lims because it’s so … Well dull I guess? There’s really nothing special about this place other than them serving food quick. The staff members are the grumpiest people ever! Don’t even know how to greet people or say thanks after their customers pay … In terms of food, I means it’s ok? Nothing to die for. The best option would be kaya bread and soft boiled eggs because how could you mess something so simple up right? Haha I’ve had their nasi lemak and it was … Meh. Don’t recommend going through any trouble to visit this place unless you’re like my parents who go here all the time since 2008 haha. Sentimental values perhaps? Choose authentic kopitiams over this!

After an entire afternoon in the recording studio, my friends and I were getting a little hungry so we decided to go to Subang Parade to grab a quick bite. We wanted something local and we ended up at Uncle Lim’s Café. It has been sometime since I been to Uncle Lim’s Café and my usual order would be the fried chicken chop with black pepper sauce. It is actually quite good if you don’t mind deep fried chicken(it is quite oily). On that day, instead of my usual, I had nasi lemak with sambal sotong. It was alright, but it wasn’t enough for me. The portion is really small nowadays. The service was good, they prepare the food rather fast and it comes to you hot. Other than that, Uncle Lim’s is just another one of those slight pricier kopitiam.

Uncle Lim’s used to serve real good Nasi Lemak. I still remember the warm fragrant rice, the spicy sambal with cuttlefish and the delicious chicken rendang. Sadly, the last time I was here(a few weeks back), their standards have dropped. I was disappointed when I found out that my friend’s chicken was undercooked and the rice cold. I felt bad for recommending him the Nasi Lemak here, because it wasn’t cheap either, around RM14 for a plate. I, on the other hand, gave their new dish a try. It was their fried chicken breast with fries. Despite being the breast part, it wasn’t dry or tasteless. In fact, it was quite the opposite, it was juicy and tender and they used real chicken meat. Not too much batter either. The portion was quite huge as well. The side of fries was pretty lousy though. Too soggy. I also had their Lin Chee Kang, which was a disappointment. The herbal dessert was too watery. It ended up tasting more like water instead.

Besides the fast food outlets & specialty food stores, if you’re looking for some simple Malaysia cuisine in Subang Parade shopping mall you can head down to Uncle Lim’s café. Uncle Lims has been around for as long as I can remember. Located at same ground floor lot, you can always smell the aromatic nasi lemak rice from a mile away. Here you can feast on your traditional Malaysian breakfast such as the nasi lemak, kuey teow soup, wan tan dumpling soup & curry laksa. Their nasi lamak portions are huge & worth the rm 12.90++ you pay for. Those looking for a light bite may consider trying their kuih & curry puffs or stick to the standard kaya toasted bread with half boiled eggs. Uncle Lims is located directly opposite Sake Sushi & is totally visible the minute you walk through the main entrance next to coffee bean.

I love thoast bread with half boiled eggs as my breakfast in the morning and usually I will go to a Kopitiam to have it. uncle Lim Kopitiam was convenient for me because it’s near to where I stay. I would walk there if I’m craving for my favourite meal. There’s also other local favourite meal like the keoy teow soup or nasi lemak and curry puffs. Can even purchase their own homemade kaya recipe. But now I don’t go there anymore because it’s too expensive. Mostly because they charge with service tax. My usual breakfast for toast and half boiled eggs with milo or Kopi ais can be about rm8. But in Uncle Lim’s it can be about rm11 or rm12. Plus the toast bread is smaller. Kinda disappointed in my opinion.

Like most kopitiams, Uncle Lim serves a variety of local favourites that appeals to everyone. I was on the hunt for something relatively healthy(kopitiams aren’t exactly the best place to look for healthy food) and stumbled upon Uncle Lim’s menu. Their mushroom mee caught my eye among the usual nasi lemak, asam laksa and currypuff. Decent sized mushrooms mixed with pieces of chicken meat together with black sauce and mee made up the dish which exceeded my expectations as i was expecting something bland. The portion was also quite big but prices are on the higher side which is common in modern kopitiams as I paid RM10.50 including tax for the mee. For an extra oomph, dip some of the noodles into vinegar. Overall I will be back to try some of their other dishes especially the roti bakar.
