Have wondered about this place after driving by it a few times and it looks so elegantly Japanese. Inside the décor is quite simple though, but bright and has a Japanese canteen feel to it. Most of the seats are communal style though. Having just returned from Japan I was looking forward to having some yummy curry rice. And that said, the curry looks goopy but tastes decent though not as mindblowing to what I was expecting. But as the price for the rice sets are much more affordable compared to Ma Maison(currently best tonkatsu in KL imho), I guess it’s back to the«you get what you pay» reasoning again. Still, this place is worth dropping by if you’re looking for a fuss free meal in the Seapark area. Order at the counter, pick up your green tea and wait to be served the food.

This has become one of my favourite Japanese restaurants at a neighbourhood that will not be too crowded with patrons. Their curry rice is my comfort food that I enjoyed going there whenever my cravings kick in. Their fried pork cutlet is one of the best that I’ve tried, the texture won’t be dried up and is still tender and juicy enough. Their side dish such as the lightly salted sweet potato and almond pudding is very recommended as well!

Placed a few shops down the same row as Awesome Canteen in Paramount, comes one of the first Japanese Curry Rice stores in PJ! For less than RM20, this will score you a japanese curry rice set accompanied with a miso soup, salad and a refillable cup of green tea. Their chicken katsu was delectable just as their sides were too so it was definitely worth it. A problem I had with the place though that may seem a tad bit weird is that there is a lot of echo in there. Everything sounds amplified in there even as I was speaking to a friend so it was a tad bit distracting. The table behind us had kids with them and were also drunk… so that may have not helped with my experience here as well. Overall, I thought it was refreshing to have something new in the neighborhood and for the price you pay, the standard is definitely up to par! Also it is worth noting that this restaurant sells pork so if you’re particular about that, this may not be a place for you.

PJ foodies, watch out! There’s a curry place in town that is sure to rock your tastebuds, It is not just any average curry but a Japanese one. This Taman Paramount outlet exudes a brightly-colored interior with a minimalist approach. The one reason for a visit is just for their mild curry that is unlike our local variety. The menu contains a variety depending on your choice of protein from deep fried cutlets, prawns, potato croquettes or omelets for about RM15 including rice. It’s a simple light meal for lunch or dinner, just like how the Japanese eat their meals. You can also opt for the udon if you’re not feeling like rice that day, or if you’re just popping by for a snack, they have a small selection of sides inc;uding crab stick salad or a pudding for dessert.

Japanese Curry Rice. I’ve never known such a dish. The minute i saw how simple the menu was, i was intrigued. Can’t stand menus with too many dishes, so unnecessary in my opinion. It looked reasonable enough, a set menu for less than a 20. Even from outside, it looks delicious. Keep in mind, it’s self service. So have a look at the menu, write your order up on the sheet of paper they provide and head on up to the counter to place your oder and pay before seating down. It doesn’t take that long before they place a tray of your set meal on the table. I had ordered the Torikatsu Chicken with Rice set meal. I got soup, a bowl of salad and a plate of rice with torikatsu chicken. Presentation wise, it’s nothing fancy really. You shouldn’t expect much from a cafeteria type café anyways. But don’t get me wrong, the plain design of the place is comforting. It has a chilled vibe here, very casual. All in all, the food is really quite delicious. I’ve never had Japanese Curry Rice before, and it’s pretty damn good! I quite like their tea as well, blended really well with my meal. Perhaps my only complaint of this place, is the fact that families don’t really keep track of their kids and the workers don’t mind it. It’s kind of a buzzkill, when you’re trying to have a conversation with a friend, and a bunch of kids are running around shouting random things. I’m just saying…

Do you like pork? Do you like curry? Well Shokudo might just be the place for you. My sister told me about a new pork curry place in town and I practically lost my marbles. That is how much I love Japanese Curry. And they offer pork to top it off. We went there that same day for dinner. It is pretty hard to miss it because it is brightly lit. The interior is spacious with large tables placed right at the walls. You order your food at the counter. Looking at the menu, you get other options like udon, We ordered, the Tonkatsu Curry set, Hire Katsu Curry set and a small plate of Satsumaimo Butteryaki for starters. I am now in love with the Satsumaimo. Basically sweet potatoes, it is so well cooked and buttery. Loved it so much so we ordered a second plate. A definite must have when you come here. My sister just said it was cravings worthy. As for the curry, my Tonkatsu features leaner meat slices while the Hire Katsu was thicker. So it is up to you if you prefer more crispier meat or thicker meat. The curry wasn’t spicy but it was plentiful as was the pork. And for RM18 for the set which comes with salad, tea and miso soup I think it was worth it. They have wifi too, so do not be afraid to ask for the password. As with most places that serve pork, they are closed on Mondays.

I discovered a restaurant in Taman Paramount few days ago — Shokudo Japanese Curry Rice. The restaurant is located along the same row as Awesome Canteen, and it’s very easy to spot the white wall among all the shop lots. From the outside, the restaurant has a Japenese feel — simple, clean and bright. On the inside, the place is spacious with long tables and benches and gave me a «canteen» feel to it. They offer curry dishes from rice to ramen, and the pricing is averagely RM15-RM18. Joe and I each ordered a pork curry rice. He had a Deep Fried Pork Cutlet with Curry Rice. Surprisingly, the pork cutlet was juicy. I had the Stir Fried Pork with Curry Rice, and my pork slices were tender too. Both of our rice came with a generous amount of curry gravy, and Joe wiped off every single drop of them. The curry was non-spicy but aromatic. You can either order the ala carte, or add RM3 for the set which will come with a bowl of soup, salad and green tea. They practice semi self-service here in Shokudo, meaning you’ll place your order at the counter and they’ll serve the food but you have to pour your own green tea at the counter. Overall, it was a pleasant meal for both of us. Although the pricing could be a little steep for some. At the moment, Shokudo is still a quite place, but I reckon the crowds will start to increase in weeks to come.
