Was just there with my dad for lunch. We both had the soup version and thought that the broth was either really subtle or just wasn’t really flavourful. I had no idea what «lai-​fun» was on the menu; turns out it’s like the noodle used in asam laksa.
Also didn’t know that the owners spoke English, or I could’ve saved my breath asking in Mandarin and Cantonese… –_​–
If I ever go back again, I might have to try something else instead.

I had the dry lai fun with the special beef clay pot. The noodles looked slick, but they were easy to handle. They were smooth and firm. The sesame seeds was part of the gravy. It looked thick, but it’s actually not. Peanuts and pickled vegetables made the dish tastier. Without it, it would taste like something’s missing. The sourness of the pickled vegetable enriched the taste of the gravy. The peanuts were a great touch, because it was crunchy and different, something unexpected.
The soup was made ever so delicious by the cilantro. It gave the soup some flavor and it tasted fresh. It woke up my senses. The beef slices in the clay pot melted and dissolved in my mouth, and the tendon was soft and easy to consume. It wasn’t stiff or chewy. The beef balls and tripe completed the dish.
I walked away sweaty from the heat & hot soup but very, very, satisfied.

The beef noodle in Restaurant Uncle Cheng is special, indeed. They are serving Johor style beef noodles. They were previously in Seksyen 17, but have now moved to SS2 near the famous Alisan in SS2.
I always prefer noodles with soup, but with their beef noodle I would totally recommend the dry version. You can choose the ingredients you would like to have, but they added some sesame seeds and peanuts into the dry beef noodles, tossed with a slightly sweet and starchy sauce. I love nutty flavours, and it’s very unique. The soup version was good too. The savoury clear broth was served with bits of salted vegetables, and your choice of noodles and meat selections. The noodles were served with their homemade special chili sauce which paired very well with the beef and noodles.
You’d definitely be having some trouble looking for parking at that area. However, you have the choice of parking your car at SK Corner and cross the road.

There’s no lie in the word Special in the name! Uncle Cheng Special Beef Noodle is something to keep an eye out for. There’s very little MSG in the soup and the beef is mouth-​watering. You have a choice of different types of noodles ranging in size and texture… it doesn’t really matter which you choose as it’s the beef, beef ball, the soup and the other parts of the beef that really give the food a pleasant and memorable flavour.
