In town visiting friends, they took us to the ever infamous Malaysian chain Pappa Rich in Petaling Jaya(which now boasts a location in the United States, as well). I had the prawn mee and it was absolutely delicious. I also am in love with their roti bakar and kaya so I bought four jars of the kaya, a sweet jam made of eggs, coconut and palm sugar that you slather on buttered toast. We were there quite late in the evening and were seated outside since the sun was down and the oppressive heat had subsided to a mere 80 degrees and humid. This was a great spot to sit outside and chat late into the night, as the lighting was soft and inviting to weary travelers. I love Pappa Rich and can’t wait to check out their restaurant and bakery in Los Angeles. I am quite sure there are plenty of local carts and stalls much much better, but for nostalgia alone I will always be a fan of this restaurant.

Pappa Rich is a restaurant chain that serves local Malaysian cuisine. I have been to Pappa Rich quite a few times in the past few years and in my opinion, I don’t see what is so great about this place. People are always talking about how good Pappa Rich is but to me, its just very average. The food is quite mediocre and the drinks are too sweet for my liking. It is also self service so you have to write down your orders on the order sheet and then pass it to the waiters. Service is quite fast but for me, the problem is the food. It is not tasty and once I tried their dimsum and it tasted really funny. Each time I go there, I leave feeling unimpressed as there is nothing so special about this restaurant. I would only go here if I don’t really have a choice but otherwise, it would not be my first pick

I think this place is overrated. It always seems to disappoint me on every visit. Their nasi lemak is just awful, im sorry but thats the harsh truth. Coffee is just lousy and dont even get me started on the service. I get frustrated coming here, as i would always hope that it will always be better than my previous visit, but it never is. They really ought to look in revamping the meals and services or it will surely loose its customers. It has definitely lost me.

When I used to live in Melbourne(Australia) Pappa rich was almost a bi weekly affair. It was the closest thing to home. Now that I’m in malaysia I hardly come here because there’s better local street food around. However I was starving one day while shopping at the Curve and decided to pop by Pappa rich because it was all too familiar and I wanted to see if it held the same standard as the ones overseas. I was impressed by how they can offer Malaysian food at higher price points but still manage to gather a large crowd of customers. I attribute it to the service and the calm and relaxing atmosphere. Walking in I was greeted by friendly smiles and quickly shown to a table that was in a corner of the restaurant. The food menu was roughly the same as the one in Melbourne but to suit the local tastebuds. The food took a while to come but when it did, I sure was satisfied. I ordered the chicken rice as a main and was happy. I would come back here again if I was in the area otherwise I wouldn’t make a special trip just for it as there are heaps of other delicious local foods around at a much cheaper price — but I can see why pappa rich draws in a big crowd still. The great atmosphere and good service keeps them coming back.

When it comes to our local Malaysian food, I find that these big restaurants usually never seem to get it right like your hawker/street stalls. Their Nasi Lemak was a big disappointment. The rice tasted like normal white rice as opposed to the usual coconut milk infused rice. The chicken curry that accompanied it was also lacking in flavour. I ordered the white coffee which was bland in comparison to Old Town’s White Coffee and just tasted of some premixed coffee. Their breads were good though I should say, but really how wrong can you go with kaya and butter on a piece of toast? Overall I definitely won’t be coming back here again. I prefer my good old hawker stall when it comes to local favourites.

Everyone seems to love Pappa Rich but certainly not really my taste. I don’t why is just so happen that I don’t favor them much. Probably I had an horrible experience here once but ever since this branch has been improving. Son, it became one of the top of my list. Pappa rich are prominent with their outstanding cendol, perhaps their screaming yummy curry noddle and scrumptious nasi lemak as well. My personal favourite are this branch, It used to be trashy. I believe there’s a time where their staff are very rude and unpleasant. Plus, their food are a yuckie!!! But the longest time ever, I tried once again and totally change 180 degree. On the ambience though, Pappa Rich is a spectacular place to chill and totally a business places to discuss. Besides, they have incredible wifi that never fails and you might probably end up here for hours. Loving every second!!!

You would expect a franchise Malaysian food to be yucky but this place is way far from that. If a tourist wants to try the best of Malaysian food, I will bring them here to try it all here because their dishes are that good. Most of the Malaysian street food they offer taste amazing with the true authentic flavour it offers, and sometimes even better because of the quality of ingredients they use. The must try is their mamak, nasi lemak and curry laksa, it’s so delicious you will scream in your mind YUM. Be wary though because food in some outlets can be lousy, my personal best is the one in SS15, Midvalley and also The Curve. On the ambience though, I feel that Pappa Rich is also a great place for you to have your business discussion and work using the internet as place is usually quiet and Wifi doesn’t fail you. Have a great cup of Malaysian styled drink like teh tarik and start on your work on your lappy here, you will surely be able to focus and the place is comfy and cooling enough for you to work for hours.

My sister in-law just gave birth to her first son, and my parents decided to get him some new baby clothes and stuff(haha stuff… you know, bottles, pacifiers, strollers and the works.) They lived in Kota Damansara and there are a few baby stores at The Curve that were worth checking out so we did. After we got all the ‘stuff’ we headed to Pappa Rich for afternoon tea. The place was big and quiet. I remember the tables being set far apart because we had no trouble guiding the stroller through the floor, all the better for a little privacy. It was a newly opened branch then so there weren’t a lot of people there, maybe because it was also a mid-week afternoon. There was a button at the table to be pressed for service, we pressed it twice and a waiter scurried along. If there’s one food item that I would recommend at Pappa Rich, it’s the Otak-Otak. I don’t know what it’s made of exactly but I do know it’s made of fish and that it’s absolutely amazing! I could have two or three without breaking a sweat(I could also have more but I try to balance my diet when I can.) So go on, push those strollers to your nearest Pappa Rich and fill those baby bags up with some Otak-Otak.
