I’ve been to Malones a few times for drinks and food but i’m not really impressed with their quality of food considering the price i’m paying. I would recommend sticking to pub grub like the fish and chips as that is the most decent thing on the menu. I tried the chicken cajun pasta which was pretty bland and wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t the best either. Prices are pretty steep as the pasta was about RM26.90 and most of the dishes are from RM20 onwards though their portions are decent. They’ve got a lunch set that includes a choice of soup/salad and a main meal together with a drink. The kitchen seems to always be lacking something as some of the dishes are not available on the set lunch. Happy hour begins from 2pm to 9pm and the outlet at Jaya One serves pork hurrah! They serve a variety of draft and bottled beer and my waiter was actually kind enough to extend the happy hour to us after 9pm so we went for the 3 pints promo. There is also a live band at night to provide entertainment and outdoor seating area to people watch.

I’ve seen Malones at a few other places like the curve but decided to pop by the Jaya one outlet tonight with a group of friends. Stepping in you totally get the pub feel — low lit lights and background music playing. The waiters were really friendly and smiley which is always good. We shared a side of the fried calamari rings and fries and ordered a pint of beer to share. Prices were reasonable as you’d expect in a typical bar but nothing stood out for us. By contrast, D’Legends bar in taman tun brings a whole new game with their portrait framed walls and sectioned seating. Malones is just another typical pub to me. and for a Saturday night it was rather dead — probably because we came too early? They have a dinner menu as well but we had dinner before that so didn’t order anything off it. Won’t come back again in the near future — there are many other nicer pubs out there with better seatings, a trendier environment and better music and food! But if you’re in the area then it’s not a bad place to chill with friends.

I did not want to say this, but the food at Malones in Jaya One is really bad. I’m not too sure how’s the quality of their other dishes, but the set lunch we had were really bad. My friend and I used to chill out in Malones after work for several times, and we decided to try out their set lunch. The set lunch came with a choice of salad or soup, 1 main course and 1 drink. Compared to Brussels, their set lunch have slightly more options and we were very looking forward to it. When we were placing our orders, we were informed that due to some kitchen problem they only have salad on that day. It was fine with us. I had the Black Pepper Chicken. The size of my chicken was VERYSMALL! So small that I can’t help to think it might be a spring chicken. Although the chicken was well cooked, but the black pepper gravy was too over-powering. Everything tasted like black pepper after that. To make it even worse, my chicken was extremely salty. I don’t quite remember what my friends ordered, but they too did not enjoy the food at Malones. Overall, we were very disappointed with the quality of their set lunch and we didn’t bother to try out a second time.
