The food was good but the service here sucks :(they forgotten our order and made us wait close to an hour.

Came in on a quiet Saturday evening so there was ample parking and seats in the restaurant itself before it started getting packed around 745pm. On the menu there was a nice balanced selection of rice and noodle dishes, with enough unique touches to make it original yet familiar. It was slightly difficult however to communicate with the staff and it felt they were there more for order taking than anything else. I ended up with the Moo Moo Rice bowl which was tasty and filling. Beef, basil and a fried egg to cover all your hunger needs. Worth a visit to tuck in when you’re craving some homestyle Malaysian cooking.

Fat Spoon is quite famous online so I had to give it a try on a weekday evening. Parking is definitely a hassle here in uptown especially when the road Fat Spoon is located at has many workshops taking up parking spaces. Their interior design is really cosy but the café is quite small. Their much raved dish is their ulam fried rice and that was what I had. The fried rice is not too oily and is very flavourful. It also comes with papadum which is really nice too. I have yet to try their cempedak roll which is also what they are famous for.

Interesting menu they have here. When the waiter passed me their menu I was kinda confused till I turned the pages. :) It was really thoughtful and interesting for them to have this concept. I love how they have this old school decorations in the mini restaurant here and it seems like we’re back to olden days to reminiscence our childhood. Their main dish are pretty much based on nyonya food and they tasted pretty good :) There’s also some really mouth watering desserts being served and it was really tempting :) They have round tables in the house and it’s ideal for a family or friends gathering. The only thing I don’t like will be the parking spot availability. It’s really impossible to get parking on weekends and sometimes weekdays. So plan your days ahead if you want to drop by here :)

Nyonya food! Fat spoon is one of the more talked about restaurants in Damansara Uptown as of late, so my friends and I decided to pay them a visit over the long weekend for dinner. We arrived fairly early, around 6.20pm and the establishment was fairly empty, only a few tables were occupied. The outdoor seating area was located infront of the shop. It was beautifully decorated with chairs and tables from the olden days, right there and then I knew I was gong to love their interior designing and decorations. The front door had stained glass and the handle was a spoon, hipster much? The interior of the outlet was even more impressive. The furniture was vintage and they had pots and pans hanging from the ceiling, giving it a very homey feel. The food was alright. I had the fried rice with the fried chicken. The portions are abit small and the fried chicken was not made to order, it was lukewarm at best. Disappointing to say the least. The service here is mediocre at best, the waiters have no hospitality. No greeting entering/leaving the restaurant and do not even acknowledge when you thank them for their services. Definitely would not be back anytime soon.

I was here for a quick lunch after googling on the best local food. SS21, during the lunch time: how do you expect the parking lot would be like. My friend and I took 2 turns on the block to finally get our parking. Luckily we found the restaurant. I ordered Nasi Ayam Berempah and Chocolate drink while my friend ordered Nasi Ayam Sup. The spices taste different though. But I like my Chocolate drink. My friend ordered Black Coffee for his drink and turns out he can’t handle the bitterness. Lols. The surrounding is quite small for a big group and when I was there, I happened to sit next to super noisy group that possibly talk about everything she did for the last few months! My friend and I didn’t get a great time to talk while eating because the next-table girl was too busy. We ended up finished our meals faster and walk out of the restaurant. haha. The meals was okay, I guess they name this café as Fat Spoon because of the portion itself.

Would have given it 5 stars if it isn’t always that packed and noisy. This actually just goes to show that its food is good, but I am sure they are able to manage the seating better because it gets really weird to have your meal just inches away from total strangers and having to listen to all their conversations. Anyway, the food and drinks here are REALLY awesome. My all-time favorite here is the iced chocolate and the Ulam Angel Hair Pasta(must-try!!!) and the desserts served here are delicious. It’s a great place to chill only if you do not need to scream to your friend to have a proper two-way conversation.

Fatspoon — I’ve been here twice and both times only for the desserts. The inside of this Café has a really old school feel to it. Old comic books and stripes are used as wall paper and incorporated as decorative items around the place. These were comics that I used to love to read so many years back(hand me downs from my father and aunties). So for me, everything had a very nostalgic feel in Fatspoon. The desserts here are actually quite tasty and unique. I like one with the passion fruit and cream with it(can’t recall the name). The taste is something you wouldn’t find at your normal dessert place. Price wise, it’s a bit on the high side, but something I wouldn’t mind spending on once in a while(aka after pay day, heh).

I love this place and the vintage vibes it gives out. Also, this is definitely the place you should come to if you’re looking for comfort food. Their menu is filled with Malaysian dishes which will get you salivating as you look through it. The place is quite small though so you’d feel slightly uncomfortable if you were to have a private conversation with someone. Other than that, food is delicious! I ordered the ulam fried rice and my boyfriend ordered the chicken rice. Honestly, I have never tasted such yummy ulam fried rice in my life and I was definitely craving for more after I was done. The chilli that came with the chicken rice was absolutely tantalizing and matched perfectly with the smooth tender chicken and fragrant rice. I’ve also heard raves about the cempedak spring rolls which I wanted to try very much but had to rush off. Personally I think the food here is just amazing! So do give this place a visit because I know I will!

This place has a very homey feel to it. The way it’s decorated is very different with it’s mismatched table but somehow it works. The mirrors on the wall gives the illusion of a large space so it doesn’t feel too cramped. The food here is great. Asian and western fusion. I tried their Ulam Fried Rice and it was okay only for me. Nothing really great but it was good. The dessert was better though. I got a the red velvet cake and it was so good. The cake was moist and the icing was so good. I would come back again and again just for their desserts. The service was good but I felt that the staff was polite. There is free wifi here as well. The password is written on the giant blackboard in large handwriting. Parking here isn’t hard to find but you may have to drive around first. Payments are cash only so prepare some cash if you plan to dine here

So this one day, i took my date to this café. Even though i had lunch earlier, she wanted to try this café’s red velvet. Being the new person on the block in the café, i did not know what to order. I was feeling kind of full so i had a look at the appetizers menu. Something unique did caught my eye. I ordered the pumpkin fritters. When the dish arrived, oh… my god it taste really really good and im quoting it how i felt on that day. It was crispy and it matches so well with the dipping sauce. Imagine the combination of sweet, a lilttle spiciness, saltiness and crunchiness rumbling in your mouth Since then, i visited the café a few times, i tried other dishes including the rice, which was good but never bettee than the pumpkin fritters! Thumbs up!

Get to know about this place through my colleagues. Back when I was still working in this area, Fat Spoon is one of my colleagues’s favorite lunch place. It was my first time experiencing Nyonya Cuisine. I was curious and not very sure of what to order. Wanted to try something special but unsure of what to order, I ended up following my colleague and ordered a plate of Raw Ulam Rice. I regretted as soon as I see my food because I don’t take most of the thing that’s in the plate. Oh my. What have I ordered. I should have just stick to what I’ve known(claypot lou shu fan). Exploration-gone-wrong. Though I like having Nyonya Cake(kuih nyonya) I’m not really into Nyonya food. The next time I’m there, I don’t simply order what I’m not sure of anymore. Only order those dishes I know or understand. As for my colleagues, they enjoyed Fat Spoon’s food very much. So I guess, if you like Nyonya food, this is the place to be. Another thing is, I find that the shop is very uniquely decorated. Nice ambience too.

Fat Spoon is a very playful and unique café. They serve authentic Nyoyna cuisine but added some of their own twist in it. The café is located along the same row as Wondermama at Damansara Utama. The décor of the café were made up of used and recycled items too, and their tables and chairs were all«mix and match». My ultimate favourite has always been their Spicy Beef Macaroni Soup. This was a very comforting dish. The macaroni were al dente, and the soup was filled with minced beef and seaweed. The broth was perfectly seasoned and scented with herbs, and you can always add in the chili powder if you prefer it to be spicy. Squeeze in some lime to add some acidity and elevate the entire dish. They have couple of signature dishes and one of it was their Cempedak Spring Roll with Vanilla Ice Cream. I’ve heard many people talking about this but have yet to try it out. Overall, the food was nice and reasonably priced. It’s a highly recommended place to grab some nice meal, and perhaps to try their desserts too.

I always find the name of this place interesting enough to make me want to go check it out. I guess that’s how my friend and I decided to visit this place. Before you enter the café, you’re greeted with this very vintage looking door scoured from some old wooden house. The door handle is this old wooden spoon that is fat. I must say that is a brilliant way to welcome your guest. Upon entering, you’ll find that the decoration is very much items from your grandparents era. Dont’ be surprise if you find yourself sitting on a table that is repurposed from an old sewing machine with the paddles still attached to it. I personally like the feel of the paddle as it reminded me of how my mother sews our clothing. They used to have Ladybird children books with menu pasted inside of it. I love that touch but they have now use a proper menu. Good thing they still keep their receipt in a Moby Dick book. Their recipe tagline is ‘Grandma’s recipes with a playful twist’. I must say it’s a brilliant tagline accompanied with dishes that really reflected it. I highly recommend you to try their Nasi Lemak Kampung and spicy beef macoroni soup and end it with Last Pokla’s Gula Melaka ice cream.

Armed with a quirky name and equally quirky interior(think your grandmother’s house), Fatspoon has been one of my favourite places ever since it opened its doors. If I can’t decide on what to eat, I’ll go to Fatspoon. If I’m looking for some comfort food and a place with air conditioning, Fatspoon will be my choice. Parking is usually impossible on weekday afternoons so I limit my visits to weeknights or weekends when it’s easier. One of the reasons why Fatspoon has gained popularity is because of its affordable prices and homemade food. Service is usually good as the waiters are on alert and the food doesn’t take too long to arrive. Nyonya dishes are the highlight here so expect meals like perut ikan rice and ulam fried rice on the menu. The claypot lou shu fun and spicy beef macaroni remains my favourite till this day. Unfortunately, I don’t feel the same way about their cakes so I would suggest going straight for a classic nyonya dessert instead such as the sago pudding served with The Last Polka’s salted gula melaka ice cream. It’s also worth mentioning that the interior evokes a nostalgia feel as the mismatched furniture and kitchen utensils hanging on the ceiling coupled with an old door at the entrance transports you to someone’s grandmother’s home.

A modern halal Nyonya eatery, Fat Spoon Café provides a revitalizing take towards the much loved Peranakan cuisine, serving traditional Nyonya dishes with a modern twist in its preparation. Little innovative DIY touches such as wooden ladles serving as door handles, old school furniture that used to fill my grandparent’s home and the little antique ornaments add to the rustic charm of Fat Spoon. In a nutshell, it honestly felt like I «balik kampung». A simple menu, with a fair selection of Nyonya dishes and reasonably priced(relatively at least), however the small space may leave you cramped in when there’s a crowd. The food is a hit or miss, with certain dishes leaving better impressions than the other however If I were to be frank, I’ve had some better Nyonya food from hawker stalls and at a better price.
