A café with interesting concept that depicts — of course, as the name suggests — departure lounge. You would see different countries’ clocks, and some signboards in the café. Also, their menu’s price list are all listed as departure times too. Coffee is good here, but I have not gotten the chance to try their food. There are some mixed reviews about their food here, and I guess the best way to find out would be to order them someday. I had their iced long black, reasonably priced but its a rather small glass. So, if you are after the venti-sized drinks, this might not be your kind of place. However, I liked the beans that they used for their coffee. There is also a big wall here that’s full of photos, which is something interesting to look at if you’re here alone, and just want some me time. Apart from that, another interesting thing would be their book here. If you consider yourself an avid traveler, you might be interested in their books collection here — a full shelf of travel books bringing you around the world. These are books that I don’t usually buy and keep at home, so it would be good to be here to read them. Overall, a cool café with pretty cool ambience.

Departure Lounge has been operating in Uptown for a long time, and both Joe and I only dropped by the place recently. We were lucky to grab the last seat, which is next to the book shelf. A piece of advice, try to avoid the seats next to the book shelf if you attract mosquitoes easily. Joe had a hard time with the mosquitoes throughout our lunch. I had the Spicy Prawn Aglio Olio, which I felt was ok. I would definitely prefer it to be slightly spicier and with an extra pinch of salt. Joe had the curry spaghetti and it was creamy with a hint of curry. Not too over-whelming.

So a week or two back, my bosom buddy from high school and I met up in Uptown for a casual reunion after… wait for it… 7 years! Thinking back, times FLIES. And ironically, we decided to have dinner at this airport themed Café — Departure Lounge. As its name sake, the concept of the café drew inspiration from an airport — from the wordings and design of the menu to the way you would order your food. That aside, the café was really just this cosy little space with rows of books lining up the shelves, dimmed lighting and lush pillows. We had pasta as we exchanged over 7 years worth of stories. I had myself a plate of Spicy Aglio Olio. In terms of taste, I wouldn’t say the best, but it was not bad. I noticed the menu had a large selection of customizable breakfast platters. As it was at night, it didn’t really sound like a bright idea to have breakfast for dinner. But I’ve heard good reviews about their breakfast platter though. All in all, it was a pleasant dinner with good company and lots of reminiscences. Do give this place a try if you fancy a soothing ambience and a quirky concept.

The first time I heard about departure lounge I actually thought it was a café in the airport! I went there for breakfast and had their big breakfast which allowed me to choose either 3,4 or 5 combinations of breakfast such baked beans, hash brown, egg(however you want it done), or bread. It was partly a let down when the bread came as a normal Gardenia type of bread, not even toasted which brought down my impression. The hash brown was also really salty for some weird reason. They do provide books and travel maps as well which goes well with the airport theme

This place was one of my favourite breakfast place before it moved to Damansara Utama.(Parking issue) However, the food here is still as good as it was back when it was still at Aman Suria. I love how they allow the customers to customise their breakfasts with what they want. You get to choose how your eggs are cooked, what breakfast meats you want; sausages, bacon, and ham, either serve with baked beans, sauteed mushrooms, roasted tomatoes, pancakes, hashbrowns or everything! They also have travel books on their shelves(duh. it is called Departure Lounge for something) for customers who may be keen on looking for a new place to travel. A good place for weekend breakfasts and if you’re working around Uptown area, give this place a try.

If there is any café that serves decent coffee but serves some of the worst sandwiches in the history of all my café hopping, then Departure Lounge fits the bill, and fits it extremely well. What they offers are pish posh cups of various coffees that tastes as good as what you might expect in a café. Their sandwiches, however, are weak. Weak as in cold, moldy, hard and most of the time, distasteful. Their breakfast menu is admittedly good, but when you have finished tasting the sandwiches in this café, any breakfast tastes good, even if it is to come with slimy worms regurgitating mystery green slime. I kid, I kid. Departure Lounge does live up to its reputation as a lounge, and a departure lounge at that too, for if you ever tasted their sandwiches, you would wish to depart from there too.

This café is one of my colleague’s favorite lunch place. Whenever she feel down or wanted to reward herself with some comfort food during lunch, we will come here for some delicious breakfast. Over here they’re quite special. They have a ‘DIMW(do it my way) breakfast platter’ where we can either pick 3, 5 or 7 items from the breakfast options that they offer and it comes with 2 slices of toast. Like any other breakfast places you can also choose how you want your eggs to be done(scrambled, fried or omelet). The best part is, this café serve handcrafted coffees too! Best to couple with the delicious breakfast. Besides the DIMY breakfasts, they serve a variety of all day breakfasts like pancakes, egg Benedict and so on. Not into all day breakfasts? They also serve a variety of pastas, sandwiches, mains, salads and snacks. When we go there for lunch, we will usually had it DIMW breakfasts and a cuppa hand crafted café latte.
