The rice bowls are okay. The décor is okay. The price is too high. The portion is too small. The dessert is not right. The staff don’t understand English. I think these are the few things that I have to say about this place. I probably won’t come back again. It’s definitely a forgettable place

For people who loves Japanese food and comfort food as well, I gotta say that you must visit Mei by Fat Spoon. Very simple — this is a restaurant that serves Japanese comfort food. I have to say that I was deeply in love with their food — no kidding! But why the 4-star instead of 5? I was trying out their cempedak spring roll that’s served with vanilla ice cream — it was fantastic. However, the serving wasn’t big and with 5 pieces of mini spring rolls, it costed RM15 — which in my opinion is just slightly too expensive. This is how a love hate relationship feels like I guess! Their signature dish here which is widely discussed around — salmon ikura and avocado bowl was almost mind-blowing. I couldn’t say exactly that there’s a wow factor in this dish, but it’s so comforting, I couldn’t figure out what not to like either. Good thing is also that they are quite generous with the ikura in the dish, with the texture complimented by the creamy avocado, it was a bliss eating this dish. You could try their chirashi bowl as well, if just salmon and ikura isn’t exactly enough for you, of course. Another dessert that we ordered would be the Malteser blondie. Very eye-catching name, it’s basically a butter cake with Malteser melted in there. You get me — it feels like love, nothing less. Despite of the slightly pricy menu, I think I’m still going back!

Was there with my family members recently and was pleasantly surprised their concept. The food is so healthy and delicious! Ambience is clean and simple.

This is a great addition to the Sri Hartamas area — clean, calm, modern, and serene. I wouldn’t come here with a huge group because it’s not a huge place and with all the hard surfaces, noise tends to bounce around. When I came for dinner, I saw more people on dates, people eating on their own, and small groups of two or three. Service was quick and friendly. The food is high quality and well worth the higher prices — about 23 – 26 ringgit for a main. Portions are big and everything is freshly cooked. The soup that accompanied the rice bowl I found a bit too salty, however. I would definitely reorder the fried oysters, the scallop and lychee tartare, and the unagi bowl. I wasn’t blown away by the thin slices of ox tongue in the rice bowl, but it’s nice for a lighter meal because the sauce isn’t heavy. Next time, I’d want to try dessert too! The choices looked tempting.

Definitely a unique experience. Mei by Fat Spoon doesn’t serve your typical Japanese food — it serves Japanese-inspired dishes like ox tongue rice bowl, tomato cream prawn spaghetti, among others. The interior of Mei is the exact opposite of Fat Spoon — almost the whole of the interior was white, so it looked very classy while still being cozy. My personal favorite dish is the salmon, ikura, avocado rice bowl, which was fairly light but had enough flavor to make it enjoyable. It is a little pricey at RM28 though. The drinks are almost the same as the ones at Fat Spoon. Some of my favorite are the ice blended lychee & mint, and the hot pandan & lemongrass tea. And of course worth mentioning is the cempedak spring roll. Ask for it early because it sells out fast — 3 out of the 5 times I’ve been here and Fat Spoon, it wasn’t available. Definitely would recommend this place, albeit not too often since the price is on the higher side.

The restaurant is cozy and relax. The food is good and tasty. Flavorful and good twist on Japanese comfort food with Malaysian/Asian. Price wise it’s pricy. Food price range from RM15−40. But it’s not a deal breaker due to its taste. Can accommodate about 100pax I believe. Comfort with good taste! My third visit here. I’ll give them a 4 star if the price was less.

Mei by Fat Spoon is another food venture that are currently being run by the Fat Spoon sisters from Uptown, and they are keeping up with their creativity in the Japanese cuisine served here. The food that appears here are usually very home-ish, and it can be seen by the service of the waiters. They are all friendly, akin to your favorite aunt that you like to stick to all the time if there is ever a family gathering. the food itself is decent, with the main theme being both tasty and healthy at the same time. I really liked their lemongrass chicken; it is both light and airy on the taste, which gives the eater a better experience if they want to taste the flavor profile. That being said, I really like this place, but Fat Spoon is really the place to go if you want to have legitimate fusion food.

Mei by Fat Spoon is the newest venture by the two prolific sisters behind Fat Spoon, Uptown. They are keeping the fusion formula with this new outlet. Mei can be described as their foray to the contemporary Japanese cuisine. At first glance, their menu seems to have a good mix of healthy and indulgent items. Their main draw are their Rice Bowls. My first visit i had the Torched Salmon at RM21, which i enjoyed for the salmon mixed with onsen egg and my subsequent visit i tried the Tomato Cream Prawn Spaghettini RM28 — which was really good as well because the cream wasn’t overwhelming. It comes with one jumbo prawn. For drinks & dessert, you gotta try their Cempedak spring rolls with ice cream and also their Ice blended Lychee & Mint. Absolutely, head over heels with their interior — the white on white is a genius idea. They even have marble top tables, this place just screams Instagram ready. Essentially, i love this place for the quality and the experimental menu but think it could be more generous with the portion if they were to have such steep pricing. And i also don’t get the arrangement of the menu, why do the expensive meals come first. I find it rather off-putting.

The menu was pretty interesting. It’s a pretty new Japanese fusion joint in the Desa Sri Hartamas area. It has pretty interesting and healthy choices. The dish I tried was the ox tongue with mirin sauce, it was pretty good. I felt pretty healthy. It cost about 23rm for a decent bowl of rice, ox tongue and their version of a miso soup which I think was pretty worth it. The service was pretty good, the waiters are pretty attentive. They ran out of the cempedak spring rolls when I went which was what I was kinda looking forward to but I’m definitely heading back for a dessert run next time.

Recently, I just visited this new hipster place called Mei by Fatspoon. It’s actually a sister restaurant to Fatspoon Café in Damansara Uptown. It is introduced as a Japanese Inspired, comfort food restaurant. That’s the reason you’ll find that their portion is not big(just alright for girls but may not enough for guys) and they emphasized more on the quality of the food. Personally, I love this place and their food that I had been there twice in a week as most of their food are so unique and delicious that you won’t be able to find in normal Japanese restaurant. Besides that, they also promote healthy food and lifestyle, therefore you will find their food are generally less oily and healthy. My favourite order here would be their Salmon, Ikura & Avacado Bowl with white juice(mixture of coconut, lychee and basil seed). I love the ambiance and concept of the restaurant too as it’s painted all white with simple furnitures. I will definitely give a 5⁄5 for the overall of this restaurant. It is packed especially the lunch and dinner time. The only downside is it’s a little pricey, it costs about RM30−40/person. Highly recommended! :)

Hartamas has heaps of authentic Japanese restaurants but Mei by Fat Spoon tries to the beat the system by introducing healthy Japanese comfort food. If you like rice bowls, this will be a regular for you. I tried the torched salmon with onsen egg, rice and lime-chilli dressing. It was satisfactory though it didn’t blow me out of the water. But what I like best is, I didn’t feel guilty about my late dinner which I would have felt had I eaten at one of the restaurants down the road. I also tried the lemongrass chicken poppers with rice which wasn’t bad. The accompanying miso soup is more like a tasty soup rather than miso. It lacks miso paste, which I suppose is an intentional move to make it less salty. Some of Fat Spoon’s signature items are here including the hot chocolate(still superb) and the cempedak spring rolls. But I notice that most people come for the rice bowls, which is a good thing for the #eatclean movement. I will definitely try the summer bara chirashi bowl the next time I go!
