Gurney Drive Hawker Centre is the one of the famous hawker centres in Penang but the food was bad.

Beware: stand no. 61⁄62 will rip you off. It’s the rojak stand with two men working. They overcharged our rojak order by at least 2.5x the price. I didn’t realize this until we’ve paid and started eating the food. Please look at the price list before paying. I hate the feeling of being cheated so please be careful of this stand. Other stands were ok and honest on prices.

sorry Penang, this hawker area is completely over-rated. We tried a variety of foods from dumplings to fried noodles to soup noodles to fried hot dogs to crepes to rojak… it was all pretty unappealing. Fortunately, it was pretty inexpensive about 6 – 10 ringgit a dish. I suppose I had higher expectations — but it wasn’t as good as the hawkers in either Singapore or in KL.

Penang food trial … If you ever drive past Gurney Drive in the morning there’s nothing much to see but this area started to be alive during evening time. This area is the most popular food joint in Penang. You have tons of stall which selling different kinds of food. During the night this area is bustling with lots of people. Love the crowd and food alot but the parking is alittle crazy as the roads are filled with lots of car by the side and getting a lot seems to be hard on weekend night. I went twice to this place during my trip in October. Tried a few stall and some food is simply too yummy. There’s 2 stall which I would highly recommend: Stall 67 Rasa Sayang Best Rojak This stall serve the best fruit Rojak. The Rojak sauce is so flavourful till we dip every food with sauce. Just like the cuttlefish spinach we order the sauce was so bland and tasteless. And we eat it with the balance Rojak sauce, oh my its really yunmy. My family like this stall alot and we regretted not to ask the owner to sell us the Rojak sauce. Stall 73 Assam Laksa This stall sell the best Assam Laksa. The reason why i recommended this stall is because i did my work researching for the best recommended stall by reading reviews and blogs. I have tried a the most famous Assam Laksa at Air Itam but the taste is simply bland and the food was serve half hot. We left the bowl half eaten. I’m still glad to have visited this stall 73 during my last night in penang. The soup base is so flavourful and my family love it to the max. This place is good for Penang Food Trail, do pop over and experience it.

Anyone that ends up in Penang will have to stop in Gurney Drive because you miss out on Penang if you don’t come here! Gurney drive is the biggest hawker style food court with a wide range of food, from seafood to western to Malay food to chinese and even Indian food! It’s right to the beachwalk. It’s crazy massive there and I’m always so greedy to want to have everything(though we all know I can only handle 1 plate of small portioned meals). I normally go for the rojak buah(fruit salad with sauce all over) and the Kerang Bakar(grilled cockles), these are normally side dishes but for my main meals I like having the chinese food like Yong Tau Foo, Kuey Teow or the dimsums. They say you can come here get the best Kuey Teow you could ever find, and it will cost you less than RM5 for a small plate(normal size for me!)
