Do you like Manga(Japanese comics)? This is a hostel and café. Rather than going to a Manga Café, it is so much better to come here to read some comics while enjoying high quality dripped coffee. «Hesomagari» is located in a quiet residential street; yet it is in the walking distance from Yokohama Station. The building looks like a home. Without knowing, you would never think there is a hostel nor third wave coffee café. I went here for a cup of coffee, but the owner allowed me to take a peek upstairs where I found 2 rooms with bunked beds. All over the house, there are shelves of comic books. COFFEE: The guy here is serious about coffee. He admits that his learnings about coffee started fairly recently, but he has a very good mentor who taught him which beans to use and how to prepare a tasty pour over coffee. Note that they do NOT have an espresso machine. You get to pick your beans and he grinds it after the order is placed. Coffee is served in a nice china; I doubt that they have paper cups. ATMOSPHERE: The coolest part of coming here for a cup of coffee is the space. You drink your coffee while sitting on tatami mattress as if you are visiting someone’s house. Grab a comic book and relax. HOSTEL: Fee is about 3000 Yen per night. I never stayed here over night, so I cannot comment on the comfort of staying here. I would imagine that it would be cheaper than some of the Airbnb houses and more entertaining. HOURSFORCAFE: You need to be careful as their operating hours fluctuates. Checkout their website for the latest info. In Oct 2015, they opened at 3PM and closed around 10PM. FEE: 500 Yen for a cup of coffee.
