If you’re of a certain age and visited the Magic Kingdom when you were a kid you almost undoubtedly have fond memories of the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride. The Haunted Mansion will always be my favorite ride at the park, but 20K was definitely the silver medalist. I know the cost to maintain it must have been sky high and that the ride capacity was low, but I still think it was a huge mistake to remove such a classic attraction. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that not only was there a park that had a 20K ride, but they had an entire section called Mysterious Island dedicated to Jules Verne. When I saw pictures of it I knew without a doubt that my trip to Japan would include a day at Tokyo DisneySea(best decision EVAR). As far as theming goes I thought the area where this ride is located was breathtaking. Nothing at any other theme park I’ve been to can touch it in my opinion, and that includes Harry Potter. Imagine a lake in the crater next to a mountain that routinely spits out fire. Rusted green scaffolding twists around the interior into the secret base of Captain Nemo. A Nautilus sub that I remembered so fondly was sitting there in the water for photo-ops. Make sure you come back at night to see how the area is lit. It makes it look even better. As far as the ride itself it was honestly kind of a blur. Here’s what my internal monologue was like: «I can’t believe they wouldn’t let me take pictures of the ride vehicles.» ” I wonder what the Japanese narrator is saying.” «Are we going to go underwater?» «What was that?» «Giant squid!» I wish that I could have ridden it a second time to take more of it in, but that ended up not happening. I don’t want to mention any details because it could spoil what you experience on the ride. I just have to say that as a 20K fan I was happy. The best ride in Mysterious Island is actually Journey to the Center of the Earth, but don’t miss this one either.

Not the greatest ride in the world, but man there was almost no wait, so again, why not? You go into a vehicle suited for 6 people, but since there was no line we took the entire vehicle for ourselves? It makes you think you’re under water and the vehicle is really tight. So if you’re claustrophobic you might want to reconsider. You run into much of the worlds sea life, including giants squids! Those suckers will crush your vehicle unless you send them a shock of electricity! It was short and sweet, and a good way to kill a few minutes. Overall, I liked it even though it wasn’t really all that special.

Not the most exciting attraction but I only waited 5 minutes so I was happy with that. If I had waited hours, I wouldn’t have enjoyed the ride as much. Don’t waste a fast pass on here. The ride makes believe you are going under water. They have a trigger for a light, although it’s ill executed and could be better if there was more interaction with it. It’s not very believable you are under water, but maybe have a few beers and then go on it. I think if I would have had a few beer first, my rating would have increased!
