I should have listened to the reviews here, but since my hotel concierge recommended this place for a wagyu beef dinner I thought I would give it a try. It’s possible we ordered the wrong thing, or had bad luck with our chef since some people seemed to be enjoying their dinner, but we simply did not. We ordered one of the set dinners that comes with scallop, shrimp, and beef. We sat at the huge round tale near the entrance of the restaurant and our chef, like most others, was handling another party of two at the same time as us. However unlike other chefs his other party was clear across this huge table(others had adjacent parties) and he spent the whole night running back and forth barely having any interaction with any of the people. One of the chefs next to us spoke very good English(he helped translate some things for us) and seemed to be quite fun — our chef was very down to business, and though polite, he definitely would not be described as «fun». Our seafood ended up very overcooked as he left it on the grill in order to cook the beef of the other party. Just a warning, they cook the shrimp live — he uncurls it and presses the body to the grill so it can’t move, but you do see the head and top legs twitch. I am usually not squeamish and I eat EVERYTHING but this unsettled me, I’m not sure why they couldn’t quickly kill the animal before grilling it. After giving you the body, they also grill the head and legs until they are crunchy. Personally I am not a fan of the shrimp head, but the legs were one of the best parts of that dinner — very crunchy and not hard to eat at all. Even after this we were still hopeful for the main attraction — the beef! It was OK. I’ve had better steak in some NYC steakhouses, to be honest. Being only my second night in Tokyo I thought the steak had a lot of marbling, but after other meals I realize now this was not much for wagyu beef standards. We asked the chef for his recommendation on how it should be cooked and he chose medium. Again, after other meals during our stay in Japan we learned that medium rare is actually the way to go. Perhaps it was due to being overcooked but there was no melting-in-your-mouth that other wagyu beef we had did. It was bland, and even with the dipping sauce only ever tasted OK, at best. The bits of fat that he grilled until crispy were probably the best part of the beef. We were actually so ready for our disappointing dinner to be over we forgot that dessert was included in our meal — we tried to get up and go and they had to remind us that dessert was still to be served! They bring you to a separate dessert lounge where you can also have coffee or tea. The dessert was actually quite good, and had we not had such a sour taste from the waste of money that was dinner, we probably would have left very happy. To avoid confusion, they have a note on the coffee tables saying«Please pay at the table» — to clear things up they mean the table you are sitting at, not the table that has a waiter standing behind it(also in the lounge). The quality of food alone would have probably been a 3, but considering the cost it definitely gets brought down to a 2. It was quite possibly our most disappointing dinner in Japan, and our most expensive. Next time I’d ask a local for a good recommendation, the hotel concierge definitely steered us wrong here.

Don’t eat here!!! I should have listened to Jess. Food is bland. If it was amazing food, I wouldn’t have mind paying the price. Unfortunately, the price and terrible food made it that much worse. On a brighter note, gorgeous restaurant with great view.

Amazing experience. Took an American client here on a recommendation from locals. The prix fix options suit to taste. Menu in English is available. Staff are very friendly as everywhere in Japan and speak very good English. Kobe beef is fantastic and worth the higher price. Great selection of sake. While a nice place to take a client, most if not all other patrons were couples on romantic dates or celebrating birthdays. Nearly all were Japanese, but we did not feel out of place. Will come back here.

The ultimate tourist trap! We spent $ 400 for tasteless beef, rice that tasted like mold and the blandest vegetables ever. We should have known when we walked in and every customer was a foreigner and all the staff spoke perfect English. Highway robbery people! Avoid this at all costs! Oh and see how many reviews Derek has? Must be paid to write them… his review resembles nothing that we actually experienced.

Glad to finally see Unilocal expanding all over the world and especially glad to see Japan on the list! This review was from my previous trip back in May. A good friend told us that we had to experience true kobe wagyu while we were in Tokyo. It wasn’t until our second trip that we were able to make it out to Mon Cher Ton Ton. We went to a different location but I’m pretty sure the food is similar. We were able to make quick reservations via our concierge desk at the Conrad. We arrived early and were the second couple seated at a huge teppanyaki grill. We had our own personal chef for the entire meal which was pretty cool oh and we were definitely underdressed so we definitely stood out. First course was a cold crab and tofu starter which was awesome. You could really taste how fresh the crab meat was by the sweetness of the flavor. The tofu and celery added a nice refreshing taste to the palate which definitely warmed up my taste buds for the courses to come. Crab and avocado tower with thin slices of grapefruit and a ponzu-soy sauce. The chef must’ve wondered why we were eating this dish with such a huge smile as the combination of creamy avocado and the sweet crab meat was perfect! The ponzu-soy sauce at the bottom left your mouth with a nice refreshing after taste. The wife ordered escargot which I’ll admit I’m not a huge fan of but the pesto like sauce was tasty! I am a sucker for foie gras… yes I know how inhumane it is but damn is it tasty . The red wine reduction perfectly complemented the buttery foie. As you can see the portion was generous but I contemplated asking for a second serving. It doesn’t get better than this and you can see how perfect the marbeling was. If you can’t stand eating your steaks rare… don’t waste your money on wagyu as you simply can’t enjoy how tasty this beef really is! No bits of the steak were wasted and yes that is the fat the chef is cooking in the back . Garlic fried rice with some dried fish which was a great way to end the meal. We were stuffed beyond belief but yet still found room to pack in this delicous fried rice . After the meal we were served some hot green tea and were shortly escorted to their lounge area where coffee and dessert were served which was a light yuzu sorbet . A great final meal for another trip to Japan. Definitely not a cheap meal but you just gotta suck it up and do it while on vacation! Will be back for more but may have to try their shabu shabu first as I’ve heard people rave about it. Oh and they even gave us a parting gift which turned out to be tea cups!!!
