One of the highlights of my trip was having a Kaiseki lunch on the 52nd floor of Seryna, right across from our hotel at the Hilton Shinjuku. I absolutely could not leave Japan without having a Kobe steak. Lunch was decently priced, but for the Kobe steak, was an additional $ 70USD. In total the meal was about $ 280 for two people, a decent price considering this would go for at least $ 300 pp in the US, not including tip, and in Japan, no tips are customary. Servers were dressed in traditional kimono dress, which added a nice touch to the authenticity of our meal. The course started with very clean tasting sea urchin on top of nicely prepared stringy tofu, raw and clean octopus, and braised kobe. Sashimi followed, which was very neatly sliced and clean tasting: Next was a grilled salmon with nice contrasting trimmings: The miso soup was delightful, with a piece of tofu, and calamansi which followed each sip and left a nice aftertaste: A baby stuffed king crab followed which already got me to the point of being stuffed: For the main course, of course, was the Kobe beef. I had to hold on to my chair for this one. It was simply amazing. The marbling and tenderness of the steak was melt in your mouth awesome. A bowl of rice, soup and pickled items were served together with the Kobe beef. The meal ended with a scoop of ice cream and coffee. One of the most amazing meals I’ve had in life, imo, in presentation, flavor, ambiance, and price.

Really good. We went there for lunch. Prime Kobe is of course expensive but melts in your mouth. Great service. Delicate shabushabu in copper pot.

Maybe I’m not a shabu shabu person, but I didn’t think it was that great. And if I pay that price for food I expect to leave full. Seriously? What’s with the portions? I don’t even think ordering three sets would have made me full. We got the crab set, Kobe beef set and the Kobe beef steak. The Kobe and crab were both very tender, but my preference was for the Kobe beef steak except that it was served on a sizzling plate. Why!!! My rare steak just kept cooking. My sister preferred the Kobe beef shabu shabu since she said the steak has a strange texture. It tasted delicious to me. Surprisingly while the crab was extremely tender, it wasn’t as sweet as I thought it would be. Sadness. The Kudzu-kiri dessert was different and delicious. My sister seemed to love it. I was rapidly plotting my next meal. All in all, is it a worth to go? It’ll depend on how much disposable income you have.

Seryna is a must try experience. Honestly speaking, this place is wayyyyy too expensive for my income. But you get what you pay for here. You won’t get better kobe beef than at Seryna. I tried both versions, the shabu-shabu and the steak version of kobe beef. Honestly, I’m glad we tried both because I liked the steak style more, while my wife preferred the shabu-shabu version. I recommend getting the course meals. The side dishes and appetizers are really fancy and legit.

To sum it up, the beef and sauces are spot on! The dipping sauce is a primary factor and this place gets it right. The only thing I am going to complain about this place is «where’s the rest of my beef YO!!!» Seriously I think I inhaled my meal-there were only 3 pieces of marbled meat. The portion is not that big. If you are really hungry, get the beef set only(or maybe order two sets)…
