One of my travel buddies LOVES Gyugyuya in Toronto, so there was no way we were going to visit Japan without trying Japanese curry. We simply could not walk away from the giant gorilla. Once we stepped inside, we ordered our food via a vending machine at the door. Nothing was in English, but there were photos.(A good tool to use on your smartphone is Google Translate — you can translate any text on photos you’ve taken or imported.) The restaurant is not very big. Being in Japan, we were not surprised to see that there weren’t any tables big enough for the six of us at this fast food chain. The food was placed on metal serving dishes and it did not look all that appealing, especially with the dark brown curry sauce. But… the taste of the curry, the texture of the rice, and the breading on the meat made up for it. The curry was not overly salty as I had anticipated, the rice was cooked just as I like it, and the breading was light, crispy, and not oily at all. The portions were big, too. It was a heavy meal for me, but the guys loved it. Whenever my boyfriend and I go out, we always order two different things. So at Go Go Curry, we ordered Chicken Katsu Curry and Pork Katsu Curry. I love chicken, but when it comes to this breaded deep-fried goodness, pork wins.

There are many locations of Go Go Curry all around Tokyo. That giant gorilla face just gets you and makes you want to go and eat there! They have 1 location in NY and Brazil, too! It’s located on the basement floor, and it’s also a ticket order machine. Both bf and I just got a regular chicken katsu curry. Seated immediately in this small restaurant, and our curry was brought out immediately. A pretty good portion with shredded cabbage on one end, the dark brown curry poured over that delicious rice, and perfectly crunchy katsu on top drizzled with katsu sauce. They have crazy portions. and I can’t believe people would eat that on a regular. o. o This curry tastes like home made curry. I love it! The deep dark brown color kind of turned me off, because I felt like it would’ve been really heavy on my stomach, but it was the perfect amount of flavor and spice. The katsu wasn’t overly oily or thick, it was just what I wanted! It’s completely different from Coco Ichibanya.
