A pretty good«bang for the buck» sushi bar in Shibuya. Pardon my use a financial industry term in my sushi review, but I believe that prices of sushi in Tokyo is «efficient». It is a fancy way to say«you get what you pay for.» Information about the«best sushi» bars spreads quickly, thus supply vs. demand equilibrium is reached via free capitalistic market rules. So, when I say that Shunka Shuto Shibuta branch is the place to go for cheap but good sushi, I am not saying that the quality of sushi here is as good as Sushi Mitani(famous sushi bar in Yotsuya that costs 30,000 Yen per person). There is a clear difference in quality between 30,000 Yen sushi, 10,000 Yen sushi, and in this case 2000 Yen sushi. If you cannot tell the difference, consider yourself blessed. LUNCH: I been here only for dinner, so I cannot comment on their lunch experience. DINNER: I had chef’s Omakase nigiri sushi plate for 2050 Yen. In Japanese, ask for«Ten Cho O susu meh». It included 11 nigiri pieces and 2 slices of tamago(egg). Pieces included sweet shrimp(ama ebi), eel(anago), sea urchin(uni), chu-toro, etc. These are mostly considered«expensive» pieces. This for 2050 Yen is quite amazing. CAUTION: For some of the big stomach foreigners, one plate would not be enough. Note that 2050 Yen is a special price that is valid for one order per person. If you are a party of 4, you are allowed order 4 of these, but you cannot order a second plate at the same price. The price bumps up to around 3000 Yen(I forgot the exact price). NON-SUSHIITEMS: They have tempura and other izakaya style small dishes. They were okay, but I would stick to sushi at Shunkashuto. NAME: Shunkashuto means four seasons. COST: 4000 Yen per person for Omakase sushi, side orders, and beers. VERDICT: Far better than Genki Sushi or other conveyor belt sushi. Sure beats the quality of 100 Yen per piece sushi. However, it is clearly not as good as places charging 6,000 per person.
