I’m surprised that this establishment hasn’t gotten the popularity of their banana pudding yet. I live in Cali and I’ve only tasted this heaven in a cup in Dubai and Tokyo. I honestly didn’t know that they have a store here until I stumbled upon their mini shop in one of the JR station’s Dept Store. Do yourself a favor and have their banana pudding, a cheesecake and a magic bar.

Nice as an occasional treat though I can never finish more than one at a time. Good icing, nice cake if not a bit on the dense side. A good food memory of New York and a decent cupcake.

This is the real deal American cake shop. However(and I’ve lived in the States for 5 years) the cupcakes were not that moist and I’ve had better. I think this is probably the best you will get in Japan though so if you’re craving American cakes, you should come here. Otherwise skip. I don’t think I will come here again.

Although I’m a New Yorker I have not had the pleasure of visiting the Magnolia Bakery in NYC, so my first visit was to the Omotesando, Tokyo bakery. It was located in the basement of a small shopping center. The place was decorated just like a bakery, or even a quaint kitchen, that you would find back in the States. There was a large window where you could watch the cupcakes as they were expertly frosted and decorated, so I joined the gaggle of Japanese girls taking pictures, feeling very touristy. It was a comfortable environment overall and I almost felt like I was back at home. The line was only a 5 minute wait considering i went on a Saturday afternoon, and the staff were warm and friendly. I will say that 480¥ is quite pricey for one cupcake but after living here for 5 years and enduring the most bland, tasteless, sugarless, boring desserts in Japan I was desperate and knew Magnolia Bakery would satisfy my American sweet tooth. I ended up buying two! The red velvet cupcake was so amazingly delicious, moist, sweet, and practically overflowing with sweet cream and I smiled as I ate it. Totally worth the money. Red velvet is an uncommon flavor in Japan so it was so nice to finally eat it again. The only reason I’m giving this amazing bakery 4 stars is because the seating was too few and the few tall stool-type seats were really uncomfortable and there wasn’t a place to put purses, bags, etc. Other than that I was totally satisfied!

When I went to a few weeks ago, it seems that they have some new changes that may suit the japanese palate more. The jelly in the middle of the peanut butter cupcake was replaced with chocolate, which was completely overpowered by the peanut butter. I understand that Japanese people aren’t familiar with the peanut butter and jelly flavor combo, but I was really disappointed without the jelly. Another cupcake we tried was the peach, which was seasonal. The icing was much less sweeter, yet still as dense as their standard vanilla frosting, so it felt a bit like just straight up eating butter. Not so pleasant…

A Magnolia Bakery location is opening up in Hawaii next month and I am so excited! I’ve been hearing about their banana pudding so I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I got there about an hour before closing and the place was almost empty. My friend had remarked that she never saw the bakery without a line! The banana pudding was amazing! The consistency and texture was rich and I liked eating the banana pieces. The employees were very nice and even gave me an ice pack to take the rest home. I am so excited about the Hawaii location so I can try all their other goodies!

Best cupcakes I’ve found in Japan! So sweet and tasty! Decorations are cute! Very good cookies too! Haven’t tried the pies yet. Maybe next time! It’s almost always crowded so expect a wait and don’t expect to sit down there are only three tables.

Splurged on 4 kinds of cakes with my friend. The cakes are awesome but I don’t feel the cupcakes are fairly priced in comparison to their cake slices and pies. But everything we ate was fabulous. Not only the display but the cakes were fresh and rich in taste. Hurts your wallet ever so slightly, But totally worth it! A slice of New York. Enjoy it.

Finally got to try the Coconut cupcake today. However, I was a bit disappointed. I didn’t really taste any coconut flavor. I also tried the German Chocolate cupcake and Banana cupcake. I really liked the Banana cupcake. HOWTOORDER A CAKE: Call-ins aren’t allowed, so you have to go to the store directly and order from there. You have 2 choices when ordering a cake: 1. Order whatever cake they have that day and have them adding writing, etc. and you can take the cake with you that day. This however only limits you to whatever cake they have on hand and if they’re out that day, you get no cake. 2. Option 2 is to custom order in advance. You get the choose any flavor and let them know what writing and decorations you want. Let them know when you want to pick it up and pick it up at that time. Keep in mind that they don’t use preservatives so cakes will only last for that day and at best until the next morning.

Not a fan of the cupcakes. Not moist but not dry and Y480 for a cupcake is ridiculous. But I like the red velvet cheesecake, it’s pricy though. I paid Y880. Maybe I will come back and try the other cheesecakes but not the cupcakes. Oh, they have cookies too!

This was just like I remember from NYC. I actuality just made my friends pick one up for me, so I can’t comment on the wait.
