Well known in Sangenjaya is Akaoni. Meaning«Red Ghost», this izakaya is hidden in the back street of Sentagaya Street where it’s famous for it’s selection of Japanese sake. Be sure to make a booking as you probably won’t be able to just walk in but it’s well worth the trouble. All the small dishes they serve here centres around the Japanese sake they offer and it would be silly of you to order anything else besides sake. If you don’t know what to order, the experienced staff will be there to give you recommendations. I usually like to drink dry and stronger types of sake and although I’ve been here many times, I am still trying out new sakes. Just a tip, you might want to take a photo of the bottle you’ve had because it’s hard to remember all the names. The food here is great too but I would highly recommend their sashimi, yuba and grilled fish! For those who smoke, it’s a no smoking restaurant but there’s a little ashtray corner just outside the restaurant.
