Best experience on our Japan trip ! We discovered this place on trip advisor — it’s open for dinner only and we made a reservation via opentable. We went on a weekday and it was not too crowded(only one other family besides us). The restaurant is on a quiet street, away from the hustle and bustle of Kyoto. It was great walking along those traditional japanese streets to get to it. The closest train station is Karasumaoike(it was a 7 min walk from this station). Once you get into the restaurant you are transported into samurai world ! The décor, the props, the menu, everything is samurai inspired. There are different tables for different types of meal sets. We ordered one samurai set, one chicken curry and one noodle dish. All of these were delicious and flavorful. Each item on the menu has a samurai legend/story behind it. The hosts spoke english and explained everything to us. It was a great pleasure talking to them and learning from them. The set menu was around 3000 yen and the a la carte dishes were around 1000 – 1500 range(very reasonably priced for kyoto). They also had 2 dishes on the menu that served halal meat — which was a bonus. Lots of vegetarian options on the menu too. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Kyoto. It’s a MUST do experience.
