Wow the best scones I ever ate and they are made here in Kyoto Japan! Not only scones but brownies and corn bread and various pastries and cupcakes too. Jun is the friendly baker and takes pride in his baking. I highly recommend everyone to go there and try his bakery and goods. You won’t be disappointed. Tell him Fongie from Hawaii sent you.

I’m all about independent bakeries and cafes, and this is one fantastic one. A small bakery located near the Karasuma Oike station, Nakamura General Store sells«American» style pastries. When places claim to be «American», I’m always a little reserved about them. Pastries tend to be softer in Japan, I think due to audience preference and type of flour. On this particularly clear Monday morning, I stopped by around 11 to pick up a couple goodies. I got a Blueberry Cream Cheese scone, a Walnut Brownie, and a Buttermilk Biscuit. I got hungry on the way home so I took a bite outta the scone ^^. So moist! The taste is very conventionally«American», but while many«American» scones suffer from dryness, this does not. This one was delightfully moist and blueberry-laden. The brownie actually has banana incorporated in it and is topped with a walnut garnish. I wish there were walnuts inside as well but… that would probably jack the price up. Anyways, the banana makes the brownie super super moist as well. It’s dense and moist, perfect with a cup of tea or coffee. I haven’t bitten into the scone just yet but let’s say I’m pretty excited for breakfast tomorrow. The hours might make it a little difficult to stop by for some people who work early and get off late, but hey, there’s always the weekend, so stop by if you’re around the area! PS. The Pillsbury Doughboy decorations are adorable, and the owner, who lived in Hawaii for a while speaks English.
