The pub in kyoto is a bit more mellow and relaxed than others I’ve been to. The staff was helpful and everyone seemed to be having a good time.

My last meal in Kyoto was a stop at this quaint British-style pub. The No1DP and I were supposed to go to an izakaya across the street but due to the very rude reception we got at that place we considered other options. This was one of the few places that was still open around 9:30 on a Saturday. VENUE: There’s indoor and outdoor seating and both were packed at the time of our visit. We were relegated to the outside where there were a few people smoking at the tables next to us and our table smelled of the ashtray at the center. As it is close to one of the major streets of Kyoto it’s a good spot for people-watching. SERVICE: Though the hostess led us to our seats you order food and drinks at the bar. No1DP was such a sweetie ordering and bringing the food and drink to the table while I watched said table. Interesting tidbit: You can find interesting tidbits about football if you read the newspaper clippings that are used to soak the oil off the fried dishes. DRINKS: The Guinness is served in this hybrid glass — a mix between a beer mug and the familiar tulip glass that Guinness is usually served in. The head was of medium size upon pour. The Cuba Libre was made using real Cuban rum. Even for an average rum Cuban rum makes all the difference in a rum and coke. If Cuban rum were legal to bring over here I’d be asking the No1DP to bring me back a bottle every visit as it’s so easy to mix with a Coke. — The Fish and Chips(regular 630円). Their signature dish. The fish was fried and served piping hot. Fish fell apart easily upon being torn, a sign of good fish and cooking technique. The fish is served with two sides — ketchup and tartar sauce. I was disappointed that the fries were undercooked. — Shrimp Bucket(580円). Shrimps were seasoned with spices and salt. Still a little on the greasy side but I actually prefer this to the fish and chips. The fries were still soggy. — Fried Scallops(510円). Scallops were A-OK. They used a little too much bread topping for the scallops but the scallops are cooked just fine for being fried. — Mixed Nuts(300円). With the inclusion of the Japanese equivalent of «Corn Nuts» it becomes a little more than just an average mixture of nuts. — Shepherds Pie(310円). A unique take on the British shepherds pie. The potatoes blended well with the meat BUT my concern was that that I tasted innards(maybe liver?), which isn’t usually served in US versions of the dish. — Homemade Pickles(310円). I needed a veggie side to balance out all the meat dishes we had. Pickles, bell peppers and carrots were served. It tastes exactly what a fermented vegetable is supposed to taste like — tart and sour. No1DP and I had fun taking pictures of the Japanese tourists that came to sit in the table next to us, though we both had to get used to them smoking in near proximity. It was a good last meal to tide the hunger but rather unremarkable out of all the British pubs I’ve eaten at over the years.

The HUB beer was tasty! Staff were wonderful and the patrons were having a blast! I only stayed for one beer, but would definitely recommend this place if you are having a British mood.

Good place to hangout and have a few. After a long day of sightseeing, we were walking back to the hotel and found this bar. This bar was right next to my hotel I was staying at so it was at the perfect location.
