Big big Subway Train Station — very easy to get lost,. Once you understand how the public transportation works, it is very convenient. It took us 45 min and 560 Yen to take a train from Osaka to Nara. But it was on time and no sweat to take a taxi to the Hotel where we are staying.

The station is very close to all of the major attractions in Nara. However I highly recommend visiting the beautiful obachan in the tourist information office who speaks English. She was so lovely on my visit and recommended the best sites in Nara to see. She even gave my Japanese niece a little origami shika.

Kintetsu Nara station is another older, yet fully functional train station that offers services to Kyoto and Osaka. Like many stations of its kind, it’s rather drabby, but it’s also super convenient, housing convenience stores, bakeries, and other shops. Also, when compared to the JR Nara station, it is the most convenient public transit option to most of the tourist sites in Nara, such as Kofukuji temple right next door, Nara Park just beyond, and Todaiji temple just a few minutes’ walk away. Unfortunately, if you’re a foreign tourist, you’ll likely be traveling on the Japan Rail Pass which only allows travel on JR lines and not private routes like Kintetsu.
