Dang, I didn’t know pancakes could be so HOT!!! Oh, figuratively speaking, y’know. Ever since this Pancake chain from ‘Murica landed in Tokyo, magazines and TV stations took up this Kichijoji location too many times. The media-driven Japanese rushed to see the spectacle… And here they are, in line for 2 hours to eat pancakes. That is so damn sad. ANyhOOO Let’s talk about food. There are no such things as German Pancakes here. American sized pancakes were just not desirable for the petite Japanese. Much like Lawry’s in Tokyo and McDonald’s in Japan, OPH has cut out the large-sized pancakes from the stores. Understandable. Now, when I think of pancakes, I think of a busy diner with greasy hash browns and a dirty glass of OJ. But here in the luxurious station-front Kichijoji’s OPH, you are fed with a silver spoon. Cute Waitress: «Here’s your Dutch Baby!» Me: *mistakenly thinking that this was the American OPH* «Thanks!» *picks up fork* Waitress: «Here are your lemon wedges! Please squeeze them yourself.» Now, Dutch Babies(ew… when it’s plural it sounds kinda weird) are fluffy pancakes and the customer gets to squeeze lemon juice and powdered sugar onto the pancakes. They are the bomb and a must-have. Skip the Apple Pie, it’s never really tasted good Me: «Thanks!» *waits for waitress to leave* Waitress: «It’s totally okay if you don’t want any lemon juice!» Me: ??? *squeezes wedges* Waitress: «And now, I’ll spread some butter!» *slathers butter all over pancake* «Alright, now I’ll shake a little bit of powdered sugar on your pancake… «*powders a TEEEEENYYY tiny bit of powder* «ENJOY!!» *leaves* Me: …
