(4.5÷5 stars) Beyond Unilocal 100 Challenge 2015 — 28/? In the back streets of probably one of the most leading fashionable, trendy neighborhoods of Tokyo, lies a wide scattering of specialty boutiques, cafes and fashion designer stores. So although Nike has their flagship store in THE center of fashion influencers, Harajuku, the Kichijoji store provides another barometer and showcase of the brand that appeals to a similar demographic in terms of trendiness and appreciation of the global brand. Two blocks off the main street running perpendicular to the JR Chuo line and about a seven-minute walk from the north exit of Kichijoji station, you’ll find the newly reopened post-remodeling store inviting you to check out the latest in fashionable yet functional sporting wear. A new look focuses on running culture, but of course product lines for other active sports are also available inside. Highlights: + Atmosphere: 4.5÷5(bright, spacious and nicely lit) + Selection: 4.5÷5(good selection of latest models — shoes, clothes, accessories, with a focus on running) + Service/staff: 4⁄5(young, energetic and knowledgeable about how their products fit into your fashion sense and activity needs) + Impression: 4⁄5(as the store was remodeled/reopened in Fall 2015, everything has a nice, clean and sleek look. Lots of visual and image branding to connect with your active lifestyle mood) + Features: 4.5÷5(Nike’s custom order system has evolved over the years and a station to build your«only one» design is available for a slight premium — this is a custom service that is actually quite well-received among hard-core lovers of the products and brand) Final notes: Nike positions itself as a brand backed by world-famous athletes with a focus on performance, functionality and technology. This means the first line products tend to be rather pricey but that’s the ticket to being part of the latest trends, isn’t it? It’s a bit of a shame that they did away with their membership cards where you could earn loyalty points and receive invitations to member-only seasonal sales. This was quite a few years ago, and since then, they have opened numerous shops in outlet malls to clear second level inventory at decent prices. If you have your eye on the latest and greatest, this shop meets your needs nicely. However, if you don’t mind last season’s models at better prices but somewhat limited selection(and don’t making the trip out to the suburban malls), the outlet shops are a better deal.
