City bakery. The moment you go in, if you’re a connoisseur of anything filled with sugar, you will love city bakery. The selection was amazing. Many of the goodies you’re used to seeing in American Bakeries you’ll see there. Not everything as I have went to the Italian owned bakeries in New York and the Chinese owned in California and you will see baked goods with cream, powdered sugar, sprinkles, icing, chocolate and everything to make an American the fattest they can be. God bless America. But this bakery is still an +A and I would suggest anyone in Shinagawa Station to go take gander at the selection of tasty morsels available to you at City Bakery. Tons of seating available, relax and get your pastries and a coffee before that long train ride across Tokyo or wait at immigration. At least you’ll have that one sweet moment to get ready for the rest of your day.

What an amazing bakery! Stylish and roomy, there’s a serve yourself bakery component and a sit-down restaurant side too. For the bakery side you get a sign to mark your seat so you can choose your food leisurely instead of constantly glancing to see if a spot has opened up. I have to admit that the mere sight of many of these baked goods made me ridiculously happy due to their rarity in Japan. Rugelach, Pretzel Croissants, Bread with nut flavors, all looking delicious. The Corn Bread made me smile as soon as I tried it. The taste was perfect — not too sweet, just the right kind of crumbly consistency. I was absolutely amazed to taste something like this outside of New England. It immediately took me back to my childhood. Same goes for the NY Cookie Bun. A take on Melonpan, this treat is absolutely amazing. Even the bun underneath tastes just like what you would find at a NY bakery. The cookie was perfectly sweet and the chocolate chunks were delicious. I had high hopes for the French Toast since it was dusted with cinnamon and had a slice of bacon sandwiched in the middle, but something about the consistency in the middle didn’t sit right with me. Probably my own picky taste, but it was a little strange. I must also rave about the Iced Earl Grey which was light and absolutely refreshing. The prices here a little high, but you’re undoubtedly paying for quality and authenticity. Couldn’t recommend this place more!

In a city that has some of the best food in the world it is a delight to see something a bit familiar to the offerings in the states. Everything about this gem of a restaurant is wonderful from the design to Blues and light Jazz music as you enjoy delicious baked goods and scrumptious desserts. Coffee robust and roasted perfectly and great juices signature juices. For me this is a joyous way to start out each morning! The staff are extremely gracious and eager to assist you with your needs. Even assisting me in understanding Japanese! Gochiso sama deshita!

The French Toast melted in my mouth with a perect portion of side salad. I also had egg and croissant plate. The croissant was warm crispy outside and soft inside. The price is right and I def recommend breakfast plates here than sarabeth upstairs in âtre

So nostalgic. So grand. … almost as grand as Los Angeles. I first came here with my Japanese care-taker to turn in my Visa forms, and ever since then I’ve fell in love with it. Great selection of savory and sweet pastries, decent hot and iced coffee and tea, juices, and set lunches to dine in or take out. As the name goes, the ambiance is urban — with a good mix of jazz in the background. Yet I highly, highly discourage anyone from ordering the Mexican sandwich if anyone else is tempted to order it to fulfill their homesick tastebuds(Lets agree that only California and Mexico can do that right). Up to this date, the only disappointing item I’ve ordered was the Mexican sandwich. Anyways, is always my go-to haven before/after I spend hours at the immigration bureau begging to turn in /pick up my VISA’s. Can’t think of a better place to warm my heart.

The best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had! It’s a good thing there is a huge ocean that separates me and those cookies, otherwise I would eat them every day. Their lemonade has a bite and is more bitter than sour, yet it’s still quite refreshing. The hot chocolate is thick, rich, dark, and creamy. It’s basically like you’re drinking a chocolate bar. The fruit tart was also delicious. The berries were all fresh and the crust was flaky. The custard was thick but not too thick like jello or the fruit tart from Dean & Deluca. Depending on who helps you, they speak English well. One time a waitress was confused which made us confused but a waiter helped us and told us what to do. Overall, this is a great place to get dessert or grab a cookie on the go.
