Just returned from my trip to Japan, with two days in Tokyo. Being on a budget, I was lucky enough to find Kai Hostel(also called Kaisu Hostel) located in the north-west portion of Tokyo’s Minato district. The owners, Shige and Takaki were excellent hosts, and have put together what must be the nicest hostel in Japan. Very clean, very organized, and with a beautiful aesthetic. Kai is located a block from the Akasaka train station which puts you in easy reach of all of Tokyo. The bed was super comfortable, and there is air conditioning in every room if needed. They also rent towels for 200 yen, should you not have your own. They provide a simple breakfast every morning, and there are two laundromats practically next door. I would not hesitate to stay at Kai again, and would certainly rather stay there than pay for an expensive Tokyo hotel room.
