We were in Tokyo for 3 weeks staying fifteen minutes away from this vegan gem. We went back multiple times and fell in love with the food and the delightful owner/chef affectionately known as Mama-San. Kobachi-Ya is a cozy little spot, but we never had any trouble finding a table. If you’re looking for healthful, plant-based, macrobiotic Japanese fare, don’t pass this up. Mama-San’s food is delicious and prepared from scratch — if you like, ask her to choose and she’ll whip you up some favorites. Kobachi-Ya will quickly become your go-to for lunch and dinner.

I eat here often when in town. This is one of my two top picks for vegan food in central Tokyo. For lunch there are usually one of two options and I almost always go with their standard plate(1200yen) which is a combination of numerous seasonal foods and it comes with genmai brown rice and miso soup. For dinner they have a lot of options, but I usually stick with the one simple set they have which goes for around 1400yen. The miso soup here is the best I have ever tasted, hands down. She uses the broth from Matsutake mushrooms and Konbu. — no fish stock… the restaurant is 100% vegan. The owner is great and she is very passionate about what she does. Its very different from most other places in central Tokyo that have a very assembly line feel or skimp on quantity and quality. I am also very appreciative of the owner’s flexibility. I am a picky eater and dont do well with white creamy milky looking things(including any kind of tonyuu). The owner more than a few times changed something out for me and Ive always appreciated that. The only caveat is this place is a bit difficult to find. Its in the basement of the Scenario Kaikan on Akasaka doori streeet… just where there is a traffic light. You really need to look out for it. When you find it, you will not be disappointed.
