Fantastic for a tourist, especially one needing wi-fi. I love Tokyo and all it has to offer and there are little gems like Itamae sushi where the sushi is well prepared, there is a warm ambience, staff is engaging and it’s quite busy. I loved the rolls and they have vegetarian options for those who are(my friend is one). I would recommend this for a sushi place in Tokyo for a tourist.

Ended up coming here twice — once with my boyfriend and again with a group of locals. First experience was marred by having been seated upstairs by an extremely LOUD table(unfortunately speaking in English, so we couldn’t zone out and understood every stupid word they had to say…) but the food was great. English menu was very helpful. They do take credit cards. I would recommend their sushi, and grilled fish, instead of their rolls which had a ton of rice with very little filling. The grilled fish, I think it was mackerel, was amazing– literally melt-in-your mouth quality. Also had a very nice tuna/avocado tartar type dish. Second visit was off the charts, our local friends just kept ordering everything for the table, I lost count at how many different fish pieces I ate… and the cold beer I drank… just delicious… and no loud talking assh*les.

Great menu but when the struggling gentlemen waiter started providing service we immediately knew the experience was going downhill. They are understaffed, very slow, and he was absolutely lost which ruined my otherwise hopeful experience. He should not be waiting tables, period. The tuna was amazing, the only reason for two stars. The veggie roll and spicy tuna roll had so much rice that I tasted no fish. I do not recommend these rolls whatsoever. The nigiri was simple, elegant and made the meal but unfortunately had an experience that left everyone at the table clamoring to leave.

This place is a solid sushi place. If you’re looking for a mind blowing experience it is not that but its really good sushi done quickly. My co-worker and I went there for lunch and it was exactly what we were looking for, high quality, quick, and decently priced sushi. The wait staff is really nice and theres an english menu for us foreigners. This place did not disappoint

Qualities are guaranteed. Every sushi was in great shape and tastes better. It’s kind of cheap. Around this place, so many foreigners were trying to pick up girls and feels so uncomfortable.

On our last night in Tokyo, we decided to get sushi near the hotel. We had seen great reviews for this place on Unilocal and whenever we walked by — it was always busy. We were seated in the nice upstairs area which has an interior patio for smoking. The menu is a bit limited. BUT they do have an English menu. My fiancé and I ordered a salmon sushi combination set which included different salmons, tuna summer rolls, tuna tar tare and tuna sushi combination. The tuna was very good. The salmon was okay — a little too fishy for me. The appetizers were okay. We also ordered some other nigiri on the side. Service was good. Prices were very reasonable. But the menu selection was limited. It wasn’t the best sushi I have ever had.

We went here twice during our 4 day stay in Tokyo. It’s truly a wonderful sushi restaurant. It’s not the fanciest spot and it’s a tad Americanized(which was also a pro, because they do offer menus in English), but the fish is both deliciously fresh and relatively inexpensive(a combination that’s generally difficult to come by). Our party ordered a variety of combinations featuring a very broad variety of fish: sweet shrimp, toro, squid, tuna, salmon, unagi, tamago, mackerel, uni, salmon roe, amberjack — all of it was delicious. The cuts were a tiny bit sloppy but the fish quality was perfect. And the portions were pretty generous as well. If you’re looking for great fish in Tokyo at a great price, Itamae is definitely your spot. I’ll definitely return the next time I come to Japan!

I’ve passed this place a ton in the month I’ve been living in Roppongi, and the other night, after reading the other reviews I decided to give Itamae a shot for dinner. Maybe the multiple 5 start reviews set my expectations too high because I found the whole experience a bit lacking. Itamae has managed to turn the art of sushi preparation into an assembly line. I had a great vantage point at the counter and watched it all go down. All of the fish is pre-sliced, and when you order a set the chef just has to assemble your pieces. My set included 12 pieces — one guy made part, then handed it to another guy who made a few more pieces, then a third guy finished it off. The good news — you get your order very quickly. On the other hand, there’s a bit of magic missing. Maybe its just me, but I enjoy watching the chef slice the fish and present you with a piece or two at a time, rather than just dropping 12 pieces in front of you. Now I realize this may sound silly and I should be focusing on the taste, and the sushi I had was generally good so I can’t complain that much. But I also can’t give Itamae 5 stars knowing I can go so many other places(actually just across the street) and get a better experience for the money.

Outstanding selection and decent prices, especially for the area. I highly recommend the combo plates. Depending on how hungry you are, they have something that will be on target. The sushi is prepared right in front of you, and of course, their choice of sake is fantastic. And their English menu is the icing on the cake! Don’t miss this place when you’re in the area.

On the top my list for sushi(and my wife too!) Not the cheapest but very good value. Yes, they will bring a menu in English. Staff is accommodating and helpful. Try a special set, a great deal on very good sushi!

Getting some sushi was pretty near the top of my list when I booked my trip to Japan. After reading the reviews for Itamae, I decided this would be where I would get my sushi fix — it didn’t disappoint! Bluefin combo– This is a massive plate. It comes with three different kinds of sashimi(super fatty, to regular) one roll and one hand roll. The fattiest(Toro) was the best of course. There’s only 2 pieces — but man they were amazing. Melt in your mouth almost. The roll was a kind of mashed up tuna? And the hand roll was alright. The other styles of sashimi were great too. I washed it all down with a Kerin. They also brought out two snails. I passed on them — much to the disappointment of all my friends back home haha. Tuna avocado tar tar — served in an avocado with a white sauce — I tried some from our friend at the table — it was delicious. Avocado roll — amazing presentation — my wife loved it. Three large pieces per order(she got two orders). This is one of the only places we found that had a viable vegetarian option — so she loved it. The service was fast — and the prices were decent. Deff recommend this to anyone on the hunt for sushi in the Roppongi area. *Note — it does smell extremely fishy in there. I didn’t mind, but a few others at my table did. Just a heads up.

This place is pretty good, the added bonus is that it’s 24/7, so how can you resist! You can either sit by the sushi bar and watch the chef do his thing or have a seat at one of the tables. This place is 2 storeys as well so I imagine dining in peak hour is not so much of an issue. In true Japanese style they serve your sushi in bamboo trays. There’s something about presentation that makes eating this so much more joyous. This place is good value for money, worth trying or if you’re in the area and feeling undecidedly puckish.

I ate here twice already. Really a great bang for your buck. I had two sets the times I visited. The first time I had a special set which included a variety of sushi. It was awesome. The second time a straight bluefin tuna set and it was amazeballs. Sets are like 2,400yen. Beer is like 550yen. We had a really good bottle of saki for 1000yen the second time. This place kicks ass.

For anyone visiting the Roppongi Hills area, Itamae Sushi is a good bet for lunch or dinner. They offer a really nice assortment of sushi and small plates. Everything we tried from sushi, to small rice plates with fish was excellent. We loved the salmon on rice so much we ordered a second round.
