If you’re walking along Komachi-dori, it is absolutely imperative that you get ice cream, because I’m under the impression that you can’t get better ice cream anywhere else. Sweet potato ice cream might sound totally crazy, but it is my absolute favourite, and I’ve never seen it anywhere else. You can’t miss it — it’s purple, like sweet potatoes are in Japan — and has the most beautiful, subtle flavour. If the thought of it freaks you out too much, you can always get matcha ice cream from the same place, or go a few doors down and try a black sesame one, too. It’s pretty great. Komachi-dori is where it’s at in terms of shopping — the Ghibli store is a must(one of the first on your right), and the whole street is full of places selling traditional souvenirs. If you’re looking to take back confectionery, the Hatosabure Kamakura Dove Cookies are really iconic, and worth taking back.

This street is a must-go in Kamakura! It’s somewhat traditional and popular with interesting shops around. There’s a pea shop where you could try many different flavors of pea(like wasabi pea but some use different kind of peas). There’s are two shops(Totoro and Kiki’s delivery service) close to the Kamakura station that you can find really cute souvenirs for your friends(well, or for yourself). There are many nice restaurants here, a secret curry shop that the Japanese loves(it’s not on the big street, so it’s not THAT easy to find if there’s no one lining up). There’s a honey store where I purchased yuzu honey for my mom. I love walking here, and if you travel by JR, you can either go to Kita kamakura station, go to the shrines there, then walk south towards the street to go to kamakura station, or the other way around. It’s always on the way to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, and the next big street that’s parallel to it is the famous street for sakura viewing. It’s nice if you walk on that street to the shrine, then walk on this street when you come back since you know you will spend time at this street for sure. I highly recommend this street for tourists!
