Unilocal 100 Challenge 2015 — 30⁄100 This park, located on the land surrounding Chofu Airport, was refurbished and reopened for the National Citizens’ Sports Festival held here in 2013. The park itself is large and expansive, with several places where it can be accessed on foot or by car. It is currently used by local sports teams for baseball, tennis, rugby and football(soccer). Short story: + Features: Regulation, full-sized grounds for baseball, football, rugby and tennis. Reserve a spot with the management office or via the home page + Amenities 1: Two large pay parking lots — one in the southwest corner accessible from Kōshūkaido or Hitomi Kaido; the other on the northeast corner just off Tenmondai Dōri between Mitaka and Chofu, not far from the Chofu exit of the Chuo expressway + Amenities 2: Children’s play area with a good selection of playground equipment, including a trampoline + Amenities 3: Exercise equipment for strength and flexibility along the Promenade(along the south side of the airport; limited hours; separate spot) + Amenities 4: Nice landscaping, including a large Japanese garden and pond(east side), small lake(west side), and two large hills overlooking the airstrip(south and nortwest corner) + Amenities 5: Clean, well-lit public restrooms located throughout the park Long story: This park is great not only for people coming to play team sports, but for exercise enthusiats here for a walk across the expansive grounds. When the promenade is open, the long walk along it is enhanced by several exercise stations complete with illustrated instructions for improving your strength, flexibility or coordination. Because it is refurbished for the sports festival a couple years ago, all facilities are new and well-maintained, including the grounds themselves. The refurbishing also resulted in a new name for the park, which combined the grounds of nearby cities Mitaka, Chofu and Fuchu. Overall, there is a much better unified look to the place. Reservations for teams to use the facilities are a bit cumbersome and slightly expensive, but because teams from the surrounding cities use the facilities, there seems to be a pretty high level of use, regardless of the sport. Other notes: There is a large, full-sized and fenced facility for football(soccer) that is astroturfed and lit for nighttime sessions. The other grounds are not lit, however, so most people leave when the place«officially» closes at 5 pm. On game days for the professional football team FC Tokyo, the gate closest to Ajinomoto Stadium(southeast corner) is often opened to allow fans to pass through the park if they have parked their cars in the pay lot(open 24 hours). This is convenient if you have driven to the game, or for residents in the neighborhood, this provides a shortcut through the park on the way home.
