A first branch in Japan within a walking distance from Tokyo station, of an oldest café chain in US. Although they claim beans, this place is rather for sweets, in my opinion. Young Japanese people come here to enjoy Western atmosphere, but not for bean quality, apparently. The café corner looks as good as Starbucks. The Veneese blend \360 I had at the café was dark-roasted but only ok when it was hot. It didn’t fit with milk, to my surprise. It was strong and it almost had sore throat, somehow, like the old beans at Takayama coffee did. I suspect the beans are not the freshest. The beans here were as old as ones in mediocre supermarkets. Actually the beans are packed in a typical plastic bags found in US supermarket’s coffee bean corner. They claim beans last 1.5 years. The beans were roasted, for example, six months ago(before the café or Tokyo branch opened). All the beans are roasted in US, indicating the beans can not be fresh. The staff’s explanation was that the beans last fresh for 1.5 years. So I finally gave up buying beans here.

Good atomosphere, but taking rather long time to make one iced tea latte. Felt over priced and tasted too sweet. If you fancy a cup of tea around here, might be a bit fancy but recommend to go to F&M or Harrods in Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi.

This store opened in Japan on May 26th2015.
