Best steak I’ve EVER had! The Kobe Beef sashimi is, quite literally, melt-in-your-mouth good. The steak was prepared in their kitchen and executed perfectly. I can’t recommend this place enough– this place is a «must do» for anyone going to Tokyo!

This is a great Kobe beef restaurant in Ginza. I try to eat there every time I am in Tokyo. I usually order the Kobe beef course menu and I choose either the filet or the sirloin. The meal comes with several appetizers, salad, rice, Japanese pickles, and of course, Kobe beef steak. The beef sushi melts in your mouth. The steak is served sizzling and sliced on an iron plate in a wooden tray. There are several dipping sauces, salt, and crispy garlic chips. My favorite is a piece of Kobe beef with a garlic chip on top, which I dip in salt. Delicious! Gyu-An is located very close to Higashi-ginza station and directly behind the Ginza Courtyard Marriott. Find the wooden Gyu-An sign and walk down the stairs. You will be greeted by the friendly staff dressed in traditional Japanese clothes. You take off your shoes and are shown to your table. The service is excellent to match the food. Prices are more reasonable for Kobe beef here compared to Tepanyaki restaurants where the steak is cooked on the grill in front of you. If you do not need the grilling show and just want great steak in a comfortable and friendly restaurant, Gyu-An is the place to go. Domo arigato gozaimasu, Gyu-An!

Wow. This was a transformational meal for our Group. We are visiting from New York and we agreed we needed to experience A5 wagyu Kobe. We ordered the price fix which include 3 tastes of beef, «sushi» smoked and roast. Our group of 7 all went with the 200gram sirloin cooked medium rare as was recommended by our server. She spoke excellent English with a slight SoCal accent from watching dramatic American TV regularly. Each of the seven is our group were totally impressed with the Sirloin. It’s a bucket list item if you are in Japan and eat animal protein. Wow!

Yum. They Take it easy on us with set menu with beef sushi. So good. So much yum. Traditional seating, extremely attentive service. Perfect food. Nice sake choices for those who cannot drink wine. Advice: make reservation. They fill up quickly.

Best wagyu A5 steak ever! Came here with my friend three years ago, I had an amazing lunch at Ginza Gyuan. The fillet I had was so melt-in-your-mouth. Smooth velvety texture. The taste of wagyu lingers not only on my palate but my memory. This year I revisited this restaurant couple weeks ago for dinner. I had wagyu A5 steak(«A» of «A5» means the yield grade, while«5» shows the quality grade. According to the yield grade, score A, B or C is determined. Grade A means above standard.. 5 is the largest and the highest.) and wagyu shabu shabu. Every bite is divine . The restaurant is located in Ginza area. Less than 10 mins walk from subway station. Lunch business hour is until 2pm. However the last call is 1:45 pm. Reservation is recommended. It’s in the basement of a small alley with traditional Japanese seating(meaning you have to take off shoes) the front desk speaks English fluently and some staffs speak Mandarin. This restaurant is on my revisit list for Tokyo. I had A5 wagyu in other restaurants but nothing like A5 wagyu in Gyuan. Try it. You will fall in love with it.

A real traditional Japanese dining experience. The very kind and English fluent lady cater to our dishes with a very traditional and caring method. The food is excellent, tried the sukiyaki, shabu-shabu and bamboo steak set. No complaints but of course be prepared to spend here, albeit money wise spent.

The best steak place I went to while I was in Japan. They cooked right there at the table, the atmosphere was great, and so was the service.

Need reservations and also need to take off your shoes before being seated(note to self — bring ankle socks next time!) Now for the food. All was delicious. A lot of meat, and some vegetables. One caveat — it’s really, really expensive. Is it worth all that money? No Go to a yakatori place where it’s less ‘stuffy’ and enjoy a meal that’s not going to break the bank. My 2 cents.

It was really really good. But I’m not sure if what I got was worth $ 100 for a plate. I would rate the service 5 stars. It’s a cultural experience for sure. The women were all running around in their socks. There were a ton of locals there. I’m guessing they were eating the cheaper steak. I’ve had beef in the US that is mind blowing. A good time, nonetheless.

Highly recommend reservation which the hotel concierge could assist. Located in side street of Ginza and it was about 10 min walk from the train station. OMG, I would’ve been here every other day on this trip only if i knew how delicious and reasonbaly priced the kobe steak was. In USA, it cost about $ 30 to $ 60 for 1 ounce of kobe steak(depending on the perfecture and quality as well). The female waitress were so courteous and attentive. They were dressed in the traditional kimono dress and the japanese thongs– flipflops :). The restaurant itself was decorated in traditional Japanese décor where we sit on the floor. The menu is available in English and mostly are dinner sets. We had the Kobe steak dinner set which comes with prawn miso soup, variety of sashimi(including red snapper), kobe beef carpaccio(raw), and fruits for dessert. Of course, the set also includes a very generous portion(about 8 to 10oz?) of A5 wagyu steak atop of sizzling hot stone plate which was medium rare and it cooks as it sizzles on the hot plate. OMG, the marbling and the fattiness was so satisfying. We were so tempted to order another portion! I’ve had wagyu steak in the US, but this was bomb digity and not the same as US quality has to offer. We paid about $ 150 per person for this meal … tipping is not allowed(you save at least 18% tip). This is the only kobe steak restaurant I’ve tried in Japan, but i had a blast and really enjoyed this meal.

A transitional Japanese restaurant, real kobe beef, friendly staff who can speak good English and Chinese. Beef are fabulous, although it’s a bit pricy, still worth to try.

The place is a cute, traditionally set Japanese restaurant. You can reserve a table in English and the place orders from an English menu as well. I splurged for the Kobe beef fixed menu, which included appetizers like minced beef, beef sushi(heaven) and a salad. The main course was a Kobe beef fillet which absolutely melted in my mouth. Me and my entire party experienced a cow-gasm! I don’t know how I can ever top that… Definitely returning here when I come back to Tokyo

This is definitely as good as it gets. The staff was so incredibly nice. They were welcoming and attentive. We took our shoes off right after entering and were led to a room where the floor drops so that you’re close to the table but still sitting on a bench instead of kneeling. I had the Kobe and I remember it was a sort of Kobe steak combo plate(this was a couple years back, so I am trying to remember everything). I remember the plate came out sizzling and was accompanied by some onions and things and a couple delicious sauces. It was expensive but incredibly worth it. It really does just melt in your mouth. It’s almost a shame we went here because who knows if we will ever get to go back but definitely want to!

Holy Cow, Literally! My girlfriend and I ate so much melt-in-your-mouth A5 Wagyu steak that we couldnt move! It was by far the best steak house that we visited in Japan and next time in Ginza I will have to visit again. Steak just isnt the same after the experience of this wonderful place.

While I usually walk down the street and into a place which looks interesting, this time I was in Tokyo with clients. I needed a sure thing which would impress and that was close to our hotel. Picked Gyuan from reviews and was less than impressed. The food is good, but for having never tried Kobe beef before I was let down. For the price not the best meal and not the level of service I have come to expect from Japan. It was not bad, just nothing to rave about. Place does have English speakers and menu. Was very easy to book reservation for 5 on phone. Place was empty on a Friday night, never a good sign.

The food is wonderful as is the atmosphere. The waitress staff are very friendly and helpful. Kobe beef is great but the standard steak is almost as good.

If you’re looking for a Kobe steak in Tokyo, come to Gyu-an at Ginza. The restaurant can be hard to find since it’s in an alley and the sign is too small. They have English menu and you have options to choose of what grams of steak do you want. We ordered the thinnest cause it’s the cheapest, Y150,000 or USD150. Yes, that’s their cheapest cut. But you’re not wasting your bucks here since you know you’re in for a treat of the real authentic Kobe steak. It’s a set menu, it comes with a small salad, dipping sauces(salt, soy sauce, minced radish, garlic sauce and garlic chips and a cup of rice. The meat is very tender, juicy, tasty and very oishii. The restaurant is also very Japanese themed. It’s like you’re eating in a Japanese house and the servers are in their kimono. While you’re in Tokyo, don’t miss this restaurant. And treat yourself for an expensive meal at least once in your life. You’ll never know, you’ll never be back to Japan again!
