Classificação do local: 4 Mitaka, Japan
One of the great things about Japan is the attention and detail put into certain unlikely public services. Although with any government programs, there are bound to be weaknesses and flaws, education of kids(at least through primary school), does have a lot of support from civic, social and cultural appreciation points of view. Throughout cities, you’ll find parks landscaped and dedicated to teaching traffic safety, specifically, safety required as both a pedestrian and a cyclist. Here, kids learn in classroom format the basic rules of the road, how to properly use the sidewalks and basic cycling skills. These classes are provided free of charge, and usually arranged with the local board of education and schools. At this facility, short lectures are also given, with prior arrangements. As mentioned in my Tip, bicycles of varying sizes, training wheels or not, are also available for free use within the grounds. This location is built directly under the expressway, so it’s always protected from the elements. Also, it is completely surrounded by chain link fencing, plus there is only one main entrance in the middle so there is absolutely no danger from outside pedestrians or bicycles or passing cars, Kids using the facilities are protected rom riding out into any danger. In the photos(to be added), you’ll see roads and streets recreated in scale and exact replica to the«real world.» Completeness is enhanced by the provision of sidewalks, curbs, traffic signs and markings on the«road» surface. During instruction, there is a working railroad crossing complete with warning lights, bells and moving barrier. There are also benches provided for pooped parents to grab a breather on, and at the far end are a couple pieces of playground equipment for younger kids to play on. One other note: Basic restrooms are available. A drugstore, which opened earlier this year, is right next door in case you need simple snacks, drinks or band-aids. Stay tuned for more photos.
