The beef tongue shio ramen dish was interesting. The tongue was soft and moist but was somewhat lost amongst the rich broth. The soup definitely was the best element of the dish in my opinion – it did make me almost pick the bowl up to drink it whole. I loved the strong garlic flavor. The ramen noodles themselves were decent. Slightly less firm than I personally prefer but cooked to a respectable firmness all the same. The eggs were a nice touch. The small portion of wood ear(there is a version with more) was quite good and I wish I had gotten more. However in thinking about it I was a bit curious how the various ingredients were originally envisioned as coming together. Each element individually was quite good but taken as a whole, the experience was not significantly memorable. Overall a decent ramen dish. Not the best in this ramen street location that has many ramen shops to choose from, but at the same time not one I regretted selecting.

Was wandering around Tokyo station with the husband on our way home from Chiba when we got hungry and decided to check out Tokyo Ramen Street. After looking through the 7 – 8 choices in the small alley, Kizo looked good because I love beef tongue and was curious to try in on ramen. Before you walk in, you need to order your meal at the ticket machine right out the door. After handing over our order tickets, we were then seated. This store’s specialty is beef tongue shio(salt) ramen with green onion. They also offer a few sides such as dry curry rice rolls with bits of beef tongue, beef tongue croquettes, and beef tongue gyoza. My husband and I both ordered the ramen as well as the three sides. The dry curry rolls were ok, but enjoyed the croquette and gyoza. The beef tongue served on the ramen was very soft; the shio broth was light but flavorful and the chopped onions on the ramen complimented the broth well. I will definitely be back to this place, and I’ll be sure to order extra beef tongue on my ramen!

Located in the Tokyo Ramen Street in the Tokyo station, this place specializes in beef tongue. For foreigners, beef tongue may sound weird but it is a staple in Latino, Japanese, and other fine cuisine. Good beef tongue should be soft like a good beef tenderloin, and it is very flavorful with little to no fat. A badly done tongue, like a poorly done tenderloin chews like rubber. I ordered the 1,1000 beef tongue ramen set with an extra order of Chyashu and sides of gyoza(beef tongue in them), beef tongue dry curry rolls, and beef tongue koroke. The ramen had me convinced it was a chicken broth base with tons of green onions. It reminded me of an amazing egg drop soup — I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was pork base so lightly done the vegetables were the major players. The noodles were medium thickness, I prefer thick but this broth definately resonated with the noodle so no complaints from me here. The Chyashu was a little small on cut but the pork was really tasty. The beef tongue was super tender, juicy and I wished I had ten pieces instead of two. After having a good tongue you never question it as a food again and this one does it well. The only downfall of the ramen is that the soft boiled egg that is supposed to have a soft yolk was hard boiled. The dry curry had a nice spice and needed no toppings. The koroke is a potato and beef tongue meat pie that needs no sauce. The Gyoza with beef tongue vice pork was different in a good way. I would come again — nice to try beef tongue ramen for the first time!
